I brought my two kids into Essentia for a strep test. Since we were there, they suggested that they get a flu/Covid test. I agreed know that it is a simple test and one I can get at ********'s for $20. The bill came - $215 per test for a total of $430. My insurance refused to pay and I agree with them since it is price gouging at its worst. I complained to Essentia and they suggested I can opt to be put on a payment plan. I asked to be charged a reasonable fee for the test. They have so far refused If you have an Essentia doctor, get away from the system as fast possible. Fleecing their patients is their top priority.

Primary Care. The worst I've ever experienced, ever. Getting labs. Test rejected--Medicare doesn't pay (I'm not on ********* but that's wrong, I called ********** your insurance doesn't pay (also wrong, I checked, including the code). Oh, it's our system: EPIC (not my problem). Here's a substitute test, not as good, but... (I reject that). Not only this, but it takes forever to get an appointment. Most 40-year old doctors resign, for good reason (I've lost three primary care doctors). Finally, read and edit your consent form, or you'll be getting meds and treatment that you have nothing to do with and by people you might want nothing to do with. Check your consent with St. ****'s--a shocker. But don't expect much from St. ****'s for long because it's just merged. Read all consent. Primary care in ****** is the worst I've had in my life, except for a brief time with an integrative MD, not currently doing clinical. Note: this review is NOT for emergency surgical treatment --vascular is fantastic, saves lives! Follow up, a bit scary. Be your own advocate.

Worst professional service I have ever dealt with. I have 20+ hours logged on the phone trying to fix their billing. No one has any idea what the bill is, they all say different amounts, insurance caught them billing the same things multiple times. Cost me thousands $. Worst billing ***** ever! Will risk health and drive further to a different hospital before I ever willingly deal with this hospital again. 1 year 4 months later they still do not have the bill figured out.

My husband and I had been driving to the cities for OB-GYN appointments since it was by far cheaper(and honestly amazingly knowledgeable doctors in the specialty we needed). We could get a hotel, ************ etc and it was still cheaper. Why? Coding refused to use the correct coding "We strictly bill as infertile". That is something you should not label a women that has not been diagnosed as. Just a simple Lab draw was $200 the same one in the Cities was $35 (sickening the price difference) cost of an ultrasound of the ovaries in Essentia in ******, ** $500-700, the cities were $40-100. We proved we were not infertile and unfortunately had to switch care closer to home due to the ** diagnosis that made it considered high-risk (and wouldn't be safe to drive to the cities if another complication arose). When I called to set up an initial prenatal appt with the Doctors we would need I was greeted with "we will set you up with so and so and then you can see who you would like". That would be awesome if that was true. The Doctor that we were set up with first would not follow the ** diagnosis nor would she honor previous Specialist Doctors' recommendations. She even lied and said there was only ONE MFM. Part of the total lack of regard for previous care her exact words to us were " I am the trained medical professional". So we moved on to the next doctor he was better with bedside manner but still lacked care. Every time I would reach out my needs were not listened to (to the point of it being unsafe for the baby and myself). The ***** first words out of her mouth were "So you have manic depression?" no, my sister does (that's for reading the chart properly). Then told me to stop my anxiety meds immediately (not safe, I am glad I have training in mental health). Yelled at me for another RX I was taking and I had to ask her to stop and end the convo. We will be contacting anyone who is deemed fit about these unsafe practices.

I think their doctors and nurses are great. Their billing is fraudulent, an example, 1 virtual appt, $771.

I have had some very good doctors at Essentia but the billing process leaves a lot to be desired. I have had more than one issue with the billing office but the most recent incident was when I was charged a $450.00 facility fee for a procedure at my doctor's ******* I tried to contest this fee but with no avail. I now live in Saint **** and the same procedure here has a co-pay of $40. My insurance company gives tips on how to save on your medical bills, but you can't save if you are not informed prior the procedure that they are going to charge a facility fee.

I was charged for a service that was not received. I brought my child to ******** Pediatrics in ******, ** for a well child check. I brought up to the doctor that my son had a tiny, white pimple on the bottom of his foot that he had for a while. It was not bothering him but something I mentioned because that is what you do at these sort of check **** This was not a concern or mine or his. The doctor took a few seconds to use a scalpel and essentially pop the pimple. I could have done this with my fingers a home like you would pop any other pimple. The doctor mentioned I could pop it at home or he could just get rid of it since we were here. There was no mention of this being an extra charge so I said go ahead and take care of it. I was billed from almost $700 for a drain skin abscess. There was not a drain placed and this was not an abscess. There was no consent signed for any procedure either. In the doctor note it was said to be a small pustule. A pustule is essentially a pimple if you look up the definition. I spoke with several people at Essentia in billing, coding and patient relations with no resolution and very little willingness to help resolve this issue. I even had one person tell me what my son had done and that I was incorrect in what I was telling her even though I was at the appointment, not her. This company is trying to take money for a service that was not provided. I will not be going to Essentia Health for care ever again and I would not recommend it to anyone. The care I received has always been rushed to get you in and out. It is not about quality care or about the patient, but just about money with Essentia Health.

Deceptive charging practices, never in my life have I been billed almost $500 for a STD test?! No wonder people dont ever get tested. If I wouldve known the cost upfront instead of just getting well we have to run it though insurance than I wouldnt of gotten tested.
