A CPA at this firm, *************************, made errors in past years when filing my income taxes. When this came to my attention, I contacted both him and the firm to request amended returns be filed. Both he and the business he works for have been unresponsive, including to a recent request for copies of the returns for the previous two years, since these are the only ones for which amended returns can be filed - 2021 and 2022.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 07/20/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

I contacted ************************* directly about this matter, more than once.  And, other than his initial response that he would resolve this matter, nothing has been done and following messages to him were not acknowledged.  Since there was no timely response from him, I contacted your office, not him, but to your organization and there no response at all.

The issue is this:  He has done my taxes for a number of years when I was employed in ** and continued to do so after I returned home to Michigan.  First indication of a problem was when I received a substantial check for my MI Home Heating Credit directly from the state.  No explanation, just the check.  It hundreds of dollars over what ************** had requested on that year's return.  Following some time later I phoned him to ask what his fee would be for the 2022 year and his response was only, I don't know but it has to go up.  At the same time I asked him about the large check from the state, and his response was "I have no idea".  And that was all he had to say.

Since he could not even give me a ball park figure for tax preparation for last year I did my own taxes.  And found that he had done an error filled job in preparing my taxes and this may have gone back several years.  The Homestead Property Tax and Home Heating Credit were two glaring examples.  Others - I do not know.  That is when I contacted him to file amended returns for the two years that were available.  Contacted him and then your office.

Other than that initial response from him - nothing.   I allowed a good deal of time to elapse before contacting the BBB, but saw no effort being made on behalf of your company.

    Hello,

I appreciate the backstory, but nothing you have given me would give me the ability to correct your return or make a proper assessment as to whether we should refund you for prior year fees. Can you please email me whatever you also emailed *******************, as well as specifics on how you think the return(s) should be different? My email is ********************************* Or you can call the office and ask for me.

    Thank you,
