I was told in order to get my security deposit back of ******** after my one year lease was up-I had to clean the apartment and shampoo the carpet. I spent over three hours cleaning and shampooing the apartment. I pride myself in my cleaning skills and the apartment was SPOTLESS when I finished. ***************** deducted $160.00 for cleaning and $150.00 for shampooing the carpet and $24.41 for tax which equaled $334.41. I deserve the $334.42 which they deducted from my security deposit. Please help me get this amount. I did a imaculate job in cleaning and they did not have to send a cleaning crew in to clean it.

Tenant moderately cleaned the unit upon departure and received the majority of the security deposit back ($990.59 of the original $1,325). $334.41 was charged by a cleaning company to finish what was an incomplete cleaning by the tenant. The cleaning charge was modest and fair for the work that needed to be done to finish cleaning the apartment.

I am rejecting this response because:

I did more than moderately clean the apartment. I spent three and one half hours shampooing and cleaning - it was immaculate when I finished! I washed all cupboards inside and out-I cleaned the refrigerator and microwave and stove inside and out-I cleaned the toilet, the tub, the shower and mopped all the floors. I also washed every blind on the window shades and wiped off all the mopboards. It was not moderately cleaned but a deep cleaning was done by me. It is the managers word against mine and she is taking advantage of me by not expressing the truth. Shame on her!!!

The tenant is mistaken in thinking that there is an "advantage" to be had by keeping a portion of the security deposit for cleaning expenses. If the tenant, as in this case, leaves the unit in a less than move-in clean condition, we have to contract out for a cleaning company to come in and finish the job. Whatever the cleaning company charge amount is to us gets in turn billed to the tenant and we provide them the cleaning company's receipt. We don't have any financial benefit and in fact, having to contract a cleaning crew slows down our rental unit turn-around time. It is obviously best for us if no work needs to be done cleaning a unit so that we can quickly turn the rental unit around for the next tenant. Unfortunately, contracting a cleaning crew is sometimes a necessary event, as it was in this case, and we have to pass on the costs involved.
