I had a bad experience at one of Crown Jewelry & Time's buying events in October 2022. I brought in a box of old silver trays and tea service stuff, and let them know I wasn't sure if it was just silver plate or actual sterling silver. One of their buyers looked at the stuff, and showed me how one of the pieces was just silver plate. When I learned that they pay a low rate ($1.25 or $1.50 a pound) for silver plate, I decided to keep the stuff, and was ready to take the box back. But then the buyer said he'd like to buy one particular platter because he "liked the inscription" on it. He offered $50, and then a $100, which really surprised me because he'd just minutes earlier led me to believe all the items were silver-plate and worth very little. I said no thanks, and when I got home I actually looked at the piece carefully. It was Sterling Silver...marked clear as day! I just hadn't looked at all the pieces so I hadn't realized it. Turns out the silver in it is worth about $400. So the buyer lied to me about the reason he wanted to buy it and withheld the fact that it was Sterling Silver, even when I'd gone in there to explicitly ask them "is this stuff silver-plate or Sterling?"

To address your concerns about this instance: This was brought to my attention via email from you 10/21 to which I promptly apologized for a poor interaction and attempted to find a positive resolution to this scenario. It became clear through our email chain and our subsequent phone call on Monday 10/24 that there was no interest on your part to come to an amicable outcome and I ended the phone call. After speaking with our **** buyer you'd worked with, who does contract work with a number of local buying companies, it was brought to my attention that you requested a sale price of $100 for the stated sterling item. We'd offered $50 and followed up with your $100 requested price but you chose to keep the item. It was also brought to my attention that earlier that day you'd worked with ***** who purchased some sterling cups from you as you knew they were sterling, presented them as such and conveyed to us an inflated amount having weighed the items in a non-**** ounce format. After ***** explained to you the math and broke it down for you, both were able to come to an agreeable price which was accepted. We also evaluated and paid you out fairly on, as you stated in your email, "something like 20 Mercury Dimes, maybe 20 Quarters from the ****s and before, and 20 Buffalo *******". All rates paid on that group were to standards and fairly accepted. It's a unfortunate that you felt you had a poor interaction and weren't interested in finding a positive resolution together. I hope you have more successful business dealings in your future endeavors. Thanks
