Approx 5 Months Minnesota Home Guys bought and flipped the townhouse backing up to mine. They used unapproved subcontractors who unhooked the washer which then flooded my townhouse while I was gone for a day. When I called Minnesota Home Guys, they admitted liability and told me to go ahead with the remediation. They agreed to pay for the costs. After the repairs were completed, Minnesota Home Guys refused to pay forth repairs, stating that their insurance wouldn't cover the damage as they had used unapproved subcontractors. They told me to go through my Homeowners. My homeowners has paid me lees than what the actual costs are and I have a lien on my townhouse now. Minnesota Home Guys has not paid a dime for the damage that they have done to my home. It is still torn up and I gave not been able to live in it.

Regarding the above mentioned incident that happened in June of 2023, the individual who submitted the complaint is not our client. We purchased the adjacent condo and during our rehab had a minor issue with the refrigerator waterline (it came loose when the appliance was moved for painting), which was quickly resolved with minimal damage to both units. The other tenant was claiming the unit was uninhabitable and the entire kitchen needed to be replaced.

We did file a claim with our insurance and were advised that "each unit owner is required to carry insurance on their own units. Regardless of where this originated from, she should file a claim against her own insurance policy. If her insurance company determines they can subrogate to get their losses back, they will then have to file that claim to do that. "

The last update we received from our insurance carrier indicated that the owner of the other unit wouldn't allow claim adjusters in to assess the damage and therefore they could not proceed with the claim.

I am rejecting this response because:

The statements made by Minnesota Home Guys are completely false and misleading. Regarding their claim that the damage to my unit was minimal, the costs for removal and remediation were nearly $5,000, and rebuilding will cost upwards of $20,000. Thus, it is entirely inaccurate to describe the damages as minimal.

Regarding their assertion that their insurance reached out multiple times to arrange an adjuster visit and I denied the requests, this is entirely untrue. There was only one request for an adjuster to visit when the damage first occurred. I promptly allowed the adjuster to inspect the damage, with the restoration company present as a witness. During this visit, the adjuster concurred with the restoration company about the necessary repairs. However, I received no further communication from him afterward. This was the only request from I received from Minnesota Home Guys to have adjuster to come onsite

For months, I was strung along by one of their insurance companies, only to be eventually informed that they did not have contractor coverage. This is hard to believe given that Minnesota Home Guys is a company that employs contractors for home renovations. A manager at McLarens, their insurance company I had been working with, informed me that Minnesota Home Guys would seek coverage through another insurance company they work with, but Minnesota Home Guys ultimately stated that their insurance would not cover any of the damage or repairs.

It is clear that Minnesota Home Guys intended to delay and avoid taking responsibility, hoping I would give up. Almost a year has passed since they caused the damage, and my home remains uninhabitable due to their negligence and refusal to address the damages they caused.

I spoke to our insurance carrier on 6/4/2024. They have been working closely with her insurance carrier and they recently reached a resolution. Again, we were advised that the insurance companies would handle the claim going forward and we haven't been involved in the process. I've been advised that if she has any additional questions she should reach out to her insurance carrier directly.
