We needed a hotel (at the end of April) close to the clinic for my child's heart condition. My first mistake was choosing this hotel instead of paying a little more for something better. The stay was mediocre. But what do you expect from HI? It's a place to sleep.Check-out was ridiculous. It took the desk worker over **************************************** front of us. This hotel seems to be so short-staffed that they only have one employee on-site. I thought we had plenty of time to make our appointment but I didn't count on check-out taking so long. Here's my second mistake: With the kids bored and waiting, we had to rush out after our turn. In the commotion, I didn't notice a backpack got left behind. The next day, we realized the bag was missing. I called the hotel, and the staff confirmed the bag was there. They took my contact information, labeled the bag, and asked me to buy a *** label to send for its return. I emailed the provided address and got a brief confirmation. Buying a *** label was a long task with multiple issues, but I eventually found a way through ***'s website errors.Because of the delays, I called the hotel again. The employee confirmed that the bag was safe and assured me it wasn't going anywhere. "Just send the label when you can, and we'll get it back to you."And this is where I made my third (and worst) mistake: I trusted them. When I finally emailed the label (6-7 weeks after our stay), I heard nothing back. After waiting a week, I called again and was informed the bag was gone. The ** hid behind a previously undisclosed policy that items left more than 30 days are fair game. Staff had multiple opportunities to warn me of this but never did. I also noticed no such signage during check-out.The **'s repeated lines have been typical corporate mush - a non-apology ("I apologize for the inconvenience") and an offer of worthless rewards points. I'm not paying Holiday Inn to use a slight discount on another atrocious experience.
