My son took his classroom coursework with Safeway and we also paid for Behind the Wheel Training. He had 1 BTW in May 2024. Finally, he was allowed to schedule a second after a 6 week delay on July 11th of which they cancelled the day of. Then they said that our contract expired the next day and we needed to pay an additional $50.00. I have called every day since July 11 to schedule a second and third BTW. Today, finally someone answered the phone and I asked why no one answered the phone or returned voice messages and they said they were busy. This company should not be allowed to take money and then admit they are not available to provide service for months, thereby, asking for more money. We are going to start new and pay again with different company. Do not waste your money with Safeway.

The teachers and BTW instructors are fine. My problem is with scheduling the behind the wheels. There is never availability online for any area remotely near where you live. When you call to schedule, you are scheduled 2 months out at least a 30 min. drive from your home. I had so much trouble scheduling my daughter I didn't get it done within a year, and even though I had already paid in full, had to pay an additional $50 to extend the contract. When I called I was often sent to voicemail and rarely ever got a call back. Terrible management and customer service.

I just want to address my concern and experience from yesterday’s incident. My daughter had her second behind the wheel with Shaun (from Roseville) the instructor. When he arrived at our house she immediately went outside to meet him. His first question to my daughter was “do you or anyone in the family have covid?” She replied and said “No” Shaun then asked her again the same question but threatened her this time and said “you, better tell me the TRUTH, is anyone sick with covid in your family?” I’m pretty sure at this point my daughter already felt uncomfortable but responded and said “yes, I’m sure”. Shaun asked to see my daughter’s hours which she had but forgot to run the clock on her app. Instead of just telling her it’s required, Shaun yelled at her, threatened to cancel her appointment and have her pay $75 for a cancellation fee. Shaun didn’t stop there, Shaun told her she’s too short, can’t even step on the brakes, is vertically challenged and has nothing going for her! Shaun made my daughter cry and then felt bad and tried to be nice afterwards. My daughter continued with her behind the wheel and passed with flying colors! During the test Shaun fell asleep while my daughter was driving and said he had food coma. When my daughter got home she came straight to me and told me what had happened. I immediately called Safeway in Roseville, MN to make a complaint. I’m waiting for a call back from them. I hope Shaun loses his job and apologizes or else I WILL take this higher up. No kid should feel berated and bullied! I’ve seen reviews yesterday in Google that Shaun has been doing this to other kids! Shaun is NOT a person who should be working with kids and he needs to be fired as soon as possible before he bullies another kid!

If you're lookign for a driving school for your teen, I do not recommend Safeway Driving School. We regretably purchased the course package-deal that included the permit course and the three-2 hour required behind the wheel sessions.
My son completed the permit course during the summer of 2022. It was recommended that the student practice driving for 6 months before scheduling behind the wheel. Made sense. January 2023, we scheduled the the sessions. Unfortunately, they were "short on instructors" so the first session wouldn't happen until mid-March. We scheduled all three at that time so we could get them in.
The first session was cancelled by the instructor a couple hours before. The second session was cancelled and I didn't figure it out until waiting with my son at meeting location. When double checking the appointment, thinking I mad ea mistake, I saw that it was cancelled. I was given no notification. The third session was cancelled by me due to a baseball game that couldn't be missed. I was fine with this thinking we still had 2 months before my son could take his driving test.
It wasn't until I attempted to reschedule all 3 sessions that I was told they WILL NOT schedule sessions closer than 30 days together due to a shortage in staff. What?! That's the first I heard of that! My son had planned on getting his license in JUne and would now need to wait until August because of their staffing shortage? The person I spoke with was completely unapologetic and blamed me for not starting the sessions last fall. Had I known their staffing shortage would have caused this problem I certainly would have.
Others I speak to about their experience with other driving schools share that they were able to schedule within days/weeks of each session with no issues.
This is very disapointing and I will share my story with others so they avoid having this experience.
