    On 3/22/24 my husband and I took our tax information to Jackson Hewitt in Arnold ** like we did last year. Our return was completed and we paid a little more than we did last year for the filing. Also last year we took my son's tax information for them to file his taxes as well. She completed them right then and there and charged us $25 for his filing. My son had to go in and sign and retrieve the copy of the return and his supporting docs. We took his documents again this year and asked the lady what his would cost. She said that she would do them and let us know. Both years my son had a 1099. The only difference was he had a W-2 this year. She called me about a 1/2 hour later and told us what he owed for federal and what he was getting back for state. I asked what his charge would be and she said she didn't write that information down. I had given my son my debit card to pay for the service (he assumed I knew what the charge was because I usually do). They charged him $432 for his return!! I called to speak to a manager and was told one would call me back. They did not so I called again. The manager said if we didn't like the price we should not have paid for it. I never dreamed that the charge would be over 175% more than last year. She was not willing to work with me. I feel it is unfair to charge that kind of money just to do taxes.
