My mother's fence had been seriously damaged by two different storms, so she contacted Upright Fence to put in a new fence and replace a couple boards on her deck. A quote was given, but my mother asked if a discount could be given, which the owner agreed to do.
After this, there was a massive delay in getting the fence built. Promises were made on several occasions to "come out tomorrow," and then it would be put off to the next week and then again and again.
Then there was a request for my mother to pay the city hall for a fence permit because they wouldn't give it to him. When I went to the city hall to pay this fee, I got pulled to the side and told that they were doing this "under the table" because Upright Fence did not have a license to work in our city. It was terribly awkward... I should have decided then that we should pursue another company, but we were just trying to get a fence up for my mom. I paid the permit fee and moved on.
It took over a month for construction to start. When it was almost time to build it, an excuse was made that the old fenceposts had not been dug deep enough and that special equipment was needed to go through the "rock" that was under her fence. Before this, the company took away a bunch of the wood that had already been delivered. The fence then finally was built. However, the quality of the fence is lacking. Most of the boards have knots in the wood. The fence panels that had been originally been delivered didn't have knots, so it's like the company switched out the better wood for something less quality on purpose.
Promises were made to pick up the extra wood that had been left, but that took more days, and not everything was picked up. It had been promised to put a handle on the inside of the gate. This now has been refused. Also, a screw was put in that has gone all the way through the wood, leaving a hazardous situation for someone to cut themselves. The owner is refusing to come back and fix this.
