We contracted with James G*****, owner of Givens Concrete, LLC to replace a garage floor and do a patio addition in Sep. 2023. James completed the garage floor replacement only. The finish was, as his wife called it, "looked like ****". Because we intended to have a coating applied to the garage floor James took the liberty of skipping the troweling steps which left an inconsistent and textured floor. When he saw cut the control joints they were free-handed rather than using a straight edge which left lines that were not straight. We were charged several hundred dollars by the concrete surfacing company to grind out the uneven lines and fill with a mender before applying the top coat.
Unfortunately James experienced a loss during this time and it completely derailed his ability to manage his schedule. During one exchange, I confirmed on a Sat. that he would be at our house the upcoming Mon. When Mon. arrived he had suddenly become behind on other jobs and it would be 2-3 more days before he could get there. Then on Wed. (2 days later) he had managed to become 2-3 WEEKS behind at which point he offered a refund of our payment to start the patio work. We accepted his offer and agreed to part ways. That refund was offered on Oct. 4, 2023 and we have not yet received it. After attempting to set up a meeting date to resolve the matter (terminate the contract & refund) James said he "didn't want to pick a date he couldn't commit to". Ultimately, James picked the date and time of the meeting. However, at the last minute couldn't make it because he was still out of town, behind on another job. His wife was suppose to send us a cashier's check by certified mail but neither the confirmation number or any funds have been received. We've reached out several times but James has not delivered; he has told me we'll receive it. I cleaned up after him several times as he/his employee left cigarette butts, scraps of wood, piles of gravel, energy drink cans, and messes behind.

We are sorry we were not a good fit for you. I was told to leave a rough finish for the concrete coating company. My wife did not say any such thing about the finish of the floor. The lines were chalked and cut straight. I feel your constant googling and YouTube searches about “how to” do my job was a huge interference. I could tell that we were not going to be a good fit after I finished the floor. I did suffer the loss of a close family member but my wife mailed payment via cashiers check for the unused funds and we ended the contract. As far as the trash you may have found laying around, I apologize for that, that issue has been resolved with the employee at fault. Again I’m sorry for your dissatisfaction.
