1 starMost extreme pricing for service/parts I've ever experienced with any company in years - feel gouged and frankly violated. $1000 for two $20 parts and less than 60 minutes onsite (15 min sitting in truck). Plus the ac still was inoperable. I left message for service manager to call me to discuss - nothing. Details - Service call for inoperable ac unit (at the condenser/compressor)- service tech came same day (kudos there and was a pleasant guy) and replaced contactor - $450+ (note - part costs $20 per another company and checking online). Didn't fix it. Then replaced capacitor, another $450. Yes, also a super cheap part. Still didn't work except for a couple minutes (which he also said fan motor needed replaced as was sucking in air instead of blowing up and out....though I saw fan rotating in proper direction). Next he said circuit breaker was bad which I could confirm on one of the independent switches of the double pole breaker which happened as we were turning on and off - tech said will cost another $440. At this point, after close to $1000 for the contactor and capacitor and feeling very uncomfortable, I sent him away. A quick trip to a big box store, a breaker for $15 sized for unit, and 10 minute install myself got my unit running. Martin-Jetco was going to charge another $440 for that??? Plus I asked the tech about the coils - he shined his cell phone light through one spot and said they looked good. Called a second company who came out - they were shocked and never heard of a company charging those prices before in this city. They looked over the unit, checked pressures, and found coils were very dirty which was reason for inefficient air flow from fan but fan was good and rotating properly. After a good coil cleaning, now unit runs better, cycles off quicker. I do understand this is a business and I support making money, but charging just under $1000 for two $20 parts and just an hour of time (was less but what they noted) is particularly egregious.Review fromMike W

5 starsCame on time, offered to come early, but we weren't available. Found a major problem with the *** found the part and made the repair efficiently. Technician, *****, was friendly, helpful, and more than proficient. Send him our way anytime we call.Review fromHolly P

My advice, if you insist on using Martin-Jetco, would be to check the prices of the parts they say you need for your furnace/air conditioner at other companies or online, before they do the work, or just don't use Martin-Jetco. I had been using Martin-Jetco for over 20 years and for other service calls they charged for the part and the $79-$99 service call to put it on and I got an itemized bill. I paid the $99 for this initial service call, when he found out the problem, less than an hour, he did not have the part on the truck, would have to order, took 3 days, and that it would cost $1700. I paid $1708 with tax when it was installed, again less than an hour, 4 screws and a few wires. Started to bother me that it was a lot of money for the part, so a few days after it was installed and I checked online Hi-Vac companies for the part and found the part they charged me $1700 for, sold for between $250-$389, and those companies are making money at that price. Since it took less than an hour to install it, so that was not the rest of the cost, I called, I was given a bunch of lame excuses, like, cost a lot to train the techs, etc. What does that have to do with them charging me over $1000 to much. They would not give me an itemized bill, which was requested 3 times, which tells me that there is something they did not want me to know. We have used Martin-Jetco for 40 yrs & have always found them to be professional, courteous, helpful & trustworthy! One summer on July 4th, I had 75 people coming for a surprise 70th birthday party for my *********** air conditioning went out overnight the day of the party! Thank heavens for Martin-Jetco! !! Thankfully they sent a technician out early the morning of the party to fix this awful problem due to the horrible heat in STL in July! I am still forever grateful to *** for saving my surprise party for my Dad!!?? My dad told me that he never had any kind of birthday party growing up & that he was shocked beyond belief when he walked in to his own surprise party with 75 people! Ive never seen my Dad cry until then because he was so overwhelmed & touched by the gesture! It was one of the best days in his *********** too!
