    I broke a gear in my wife’s Baby Lock Quest BLQ2. The
    machine was purchased new in 2007. The gear in question is the large
    spiral bevel gear that drives the smaller pinion gear that drives the
    bobbin hook. Happened as I was trying to remove a piece of thread lodged
    behind the bobbin holder. The folks at Sew Right in Queens fixed the
    thread problem but ran aground looking for replacement gears. I searched
    on line, talked to online parts specialists and talked to multiple
    repair facilities with no luck. I was told by a Baby Lock customer
    support person, ****, that the machine was discontinued in 2007 and
    support for parts and service was terminated in 2017 as their company
    policy is to support their machines for only 10 years after they are
    discontinued. The machine is a $2,000+ machine and is held hostage by a
    $10 nylon gear that may or may not be unique to Baby Lock but no one I
    have talked to can tell me if this is the case. A good sewing machine
    should last 25 years or more and should be supported by the
    manufacturer. Baby Lock has made a choice to abandon customer support 10
    years past a machine's retirement date. I consider this to be a
    terrible business model and recommend that customers looking for a high
    end sewing machine not consider Baby Lock.
