We needed and bought from Clark Tool a supposed USA Made torque wrench for the shop for occasionally torquing rod bearings on small block Chevys which is generally 50 to 70 lbs depending on the rods when after the 3rd engine the torque wrench starting skipping. Upon purchase the counter man rest assured us the tool was USA made and under warranty and if anything happened please return it for an exchange. When I returned the tool for warranty they gladly took it back and after a month I stopped by just to see what the heck could take this long to fix. ***** the counter man stepped up to Inform me the tool never made it back to the company for warranty, it went downtown to the ***** warehouse and was never sent to manufacture for warranty. After conversing the product ***** informed me everything in the store was from China and pretty much junk compared to USA made products. I asked if they seen a problem with this sale as I specifically said I wanted the most expensive Or highest quality USA torque wrench and the sold me a cheap Chinese / **** **** $40 Torque wrench. Please refund us or the google reviews will be disastrous for ******

      Business Response

      Date: 12/05/2022

This complaint is mostly without merit. I will not respond to the allegations that are simply untrue. However, the details are as follows:
A torque wrench was purchased by the complainant. Torque wrenches are precision instruments made to operate within a set parameter. The tool purchased was returned with obvious signs of abuse that indicated it was placed in an overtorque situation (one in which the tool was torqued beyond the parameters of the design). Essentially, the ratcheting gears of the torque wrench had been stripped. This is only caused by greatly exceeding the design limitations of the tool. This kind of damage is not covered under warranty. We are not the final say in this manner and the complainant may take it up with the wrench manufacturer if he so desires. We will provide contact information for the manufacturer. He may return the wrench directly to the manufacturer at his cost for an evaluation. The manufacturer retains the final option of warranty.
If the complainant wishes to trade in this torque wrench for a USA made unit, we will extend a 50% credit for the purchased wrench. A similar size torque wrench that is made in the USA would sell for $276.00. The customer would receive a 50% ($66.75) credit for the now non functioning wrench bringing the cost down to $209.25
