    LANDLORDS, ****** **** & ******* **** dba BARRETT INVESTMENTS have routinely failed to addressing Maintenance issues with their property including CEILING COLLAPSE due to LEAKING and HEATING due to faulty Thermostat (taking nearly 2 weeks to fix in the dead of one of St. Louis' coldest winters last year 2022). Likewise, failture to address a LEAKING CEILING resulted in it Falling on my Domestic Partner as he went to the bathroom at night!! I had been warning THE KOLBS about this Ceiling for nearly 3 months, though! BEFORE THIS.

    Additionally, the KOLBS operate as SLUMLORDS in the way they handle their property, renting to Tenants who have turned out to be Criminal-Minded, ie., DESTROYING their property. As well as renting to a MENTALLY DISTURBED Tenant who perenially HARASSED my partner and I without her Yelling and Screaming and Destruction of our Door n Windows.

    Despite this the KOLBS never put her out.

    Yet, while all this was going on, My Partner and I endured the KOLB'S insistence that we stay.

    And I did until I decided their Negligence was simply enough!

    I decided to move. And told them so. At which point they THREATENED and then followed thru on the Withholding of My SECURITY DEPOSIT on the GROUNDS that I am the one who Broke the Lease!!

    Never mind the fact that I had (and have) Grounds to move due to their Slumlord tactics and desire to Rent to Destructive Tenants.

    Never mind the fact that My partner and I bent over backwards to accommodate The ***** insistence that we Bear with them in the midst of the many problems they were having in maintaining their own property.

    WE DID SO. Until we saw that their intentions were not good at. And they were stringing us along when it came to repairs and handling their tenants. We had many nights of no sleep due to other tenants. Even though, we made them aware of the problem. NOTHING was done.

    So now that we have moved on elsewhere due to THEIR Negligence they want to say we have Broken the Lease.

    NOT TRUE.

    The tenant above ******* ****** has a default judgement against her.  This tenant would threaten us when she would not take her medication.  There was coming from ******** apartment and ****** would not let us in.  This apartment above ******* Blair apartment tenant would not let us in.  The ceiling did in fact collapse.  We just evicted ****** Morgan.  I have Empathy for *******.  We have done everything we could to address this situation.  We have always addressed any problems a tenant has immediately. ****** is missing and ******* is no longer in her apartment either.  She signed a 2 year lease and she has not paid rent for the month of August.  She signed a lease.

    I am rejecting this response because: I was fully prepared to stay at this residence for the full term of the lease if it had been maintained by the landlord correctly.  The fact is they repeatedly took weeks every time something needed to be fixed. Which I patiently endured even when one of those times it meant being left with no HEAT in the dead of Winter for more than a week. 
    Then they have the audacity to make me tolerate living in the increasingly dangerous mold from the upstairs tenant (that lead to damage to my property in that closet right below) for more than THREE MONTHS because they couldn’t handle their other tenants!!! It is completely unfair to make that my problem. Even worse, they never even offered somewhere else safe for me to go until I FORCED them to give me an option to move my belongings till I could move out (this was on a phone call we had that I recorded). But the roof isn’t the only issue that this place had since I moved in: these landlords brought in criminals, seriously disturbed mental health peoples who threatened my safety on a weekly basis.  All of these are reasons well within my rite to dissolve the lease and get my security deposit back.
    I attached the photos of the apartment above us to a how these landlords let it get it because we I had to LIVE with the STINK of uncleanliness before the mouldy leaky roof even started.
