    On 5/28/25 we went into Steffan's for an oil change and multipoint inspection. We paid $67.52 and they told us all of our fluids were good and that everything checked out. Our vehicle is a 2014 F-150 that as used as a second vehicle by my wife and rarely used. On 6/19/25 as my wife was driving the truck to her high risk pregnancy appointment, the truck broke down leaving my wife stranded since I was out of town for work. We got the vehicle towed and checked by a mechanic who after inspection told us our transfer case on the trucks transmission was bone dry. This would have not been the case as if Steffan's Auto shop actually did their job checking the fluids like they said they did. We contacted Steffan's for our full paperwork regarding our multipoint inspection and they could not provide us with any information. When we told them about the situation they said they don't do transmission work so they don't inspect them. Every place I have been checks everything but if they don't they usually let you know that they can't preform that service so you can go somewhere else. They are responsible for not either informing us correctly about the services they proform or saying they checked something but didn't. I believe they are responsible for the damage caused to my vehicle and are liable to fix it. My current quote is around $2100 to replace my transfer case. This was preventative maintenance and I would have gotten it fixed if I knew this was an issue.

    Hello,

    At Steffan's Auto Works, we do not perform a multi-point inspection on every oil change unless specifically requested by the customer. This has been the regular procedure since our opening on June 17, 2024.

    If there were any prior concerns about leaks, noises, or other issues that could lead to the transfer case locking up, we were not notified of them, and we have no records on file of the request for additional services. This is also noted to be the only time we have provided services for this vehicle.

    Our business is an all makes and models shop. There are varying fluid levels/types on each make/model of vehicle. This is why we only check upon customer request.
    Our standard oil changes include the following:
    Engine Oil Drain & Fill
    Replace Oil Filter
    Top Off Washer Fluid
    and Check Tire Pressure.

    Additional Services can be added when requested and if we have the availability. We are always welcome to try to work with our customers, but we must have all the information and requests for services to complete services to the customer's satisfaction.
