On July 27, 2023, my wife and I stopped at Jiffy Lube for an oil change. They changed the oil, we paid and left. Shortly after we left, we noticed the car had begun to stutter and lose power when the gas pedal was pressed. We returned to the shop less than 20 minutes later when the oil pressure light illuminated notifying me that there was no oil in the engine. When we returned to Jiffy Lube, we let the employees know that something wrong. They informed us that they had failed to install the O-Ring on our oil filter which allowed the oil to leak from the engine while under pressure. The employees did redo the oil change, but the power issue persisted. It was severe enough that we took our car to the dealership we bought the car from, to do a full diagnostic inspection. The two things the dealership returned was misfiring spark plugs and an "O2 sensor that was caked in oil". We called Jiffy Lube to see of they would repair the damages, they stated that we could not prove that the damages to the car were due to their incompetence. So, I had to change the spark plugs at my own expense, and found that 5/6 plugs had new oil covering them which had fouled them out. I once again, returned to Jiffy Lube with this new evidence and was told once again that they would not repair my car. I am now having to replace the O2 sensor at my own expense which will likely be over $400. This being said, I was made aware of the short term effects from the malpractice of Jiffy Lube (spark plugs and O2 sensor), but I do not know the lasting effects of running a car with no oil in the engine for several miles.

      Business Response

      Date: 09/06/2023

We reached out to Mr ******* and he had stated that the car was at the dealer waiting on a diagnostic, we then followed up a few days later he had said that the dealer couldn't find us at fault and Mr ******* was going to have to fix it himself. We apologized for the missing oil filter o-ring once again and inconveniences that he encountered. Based on the minor event (missing o-ring returned within 20 mins low on oil), our car knowledge and the statement from the dealer we don't feel we are responsible for any stated repairs. We feel this matter is closed to the best of our ability.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

Based on the reaction and responses of our dealership for the stated repairs, they have advised us that because of the negligence and carelessness of Jiffy Lube, our car will never run the same and our engine has been compromised. They could not give us a timeline of when the vehicle would stop functioning however they advised us that because of this issue, we would need to trade the vehicle in for our safety.

      Sincerely,
