  I'm filing this complaint due to repeated unprofessional and inappropriate conduct by the owner of Build Up! Import Hobby. While I’ve experienced rudeness before, my most recent visit crossed the line. I mentioned that my cousin was interested in getting into model building and that I trusted the owner to help him choose a good starter. Instead, he launched into a personal, hostile rant. He stereotyped “white men in their 30s and 40s” as “perfectionist man-children” and “terrible role models,” claiming he was the “most masculine man” his age and enjoyed “smacking down” men who think they’re smarter than they are. He stated he bans customers over differing opinions on shows and doesn’t need business from “people like me.” Throughout, I remained calm and respectful. He continued to demean me, saying I was “obsessive” and should “find people who want to talk to you.” He ended by saying he hoped I wouldn’t recognize him outside the store because I’d “moved on.” He admitted speaking to other customers this way to “help them.” While he can run his business how he wants, customers don’t deserve to be stereotyped or insulted. His behavior is discriminatory and hostile. I left both a Google and Facebook review on this business, but have heard nothing in response. This is not the first time he has been rude, hostile, and unprofessional. On multiple occasions, he has responded with sarcasm or aggression when I asked questions out of genuine curiosity. As someone new to the hobby, I expected a store owner to be approachable and helpful—not insulting. A hobby shop should welcome curiosity, not punish it. I want this complaint documented to inform others, especially those he targets. I hope the Better Business Bureau will take appropriate steps. I won’t return and can’t recommend this store.
