I called to set up service and I am being forced to pay the prior tenant water bill. The previous tenant is not longer living. They told me the bill stays with the house.
Then they added me to the already deceased persons account I order to have it reflected on on my bill. I have been unable to get water turned on and I can’t see how this is any type of legal.

      Business Response

****** **** called my office asking to have water turned on at **** * ****** **. After looking up the property he was told that there was a back bill on the property of 183.11 that would need to be paid before I could connect water at this address. He told me that his relative had died months ago. We were never advised of the passing. We are a Rural Water Company.  I told him once that was paid I could start service in his name. To do that he would have to come to my office and fill out a water user agreement and pay the deposit so we could start the new service. He became very angry and began to yell and scream at me, stating that he had been dealing with utility companies all day and have been told the same thing every were he went.

A time later, he called back and asked if it would be alright for me to talk to a young lady, I do not remember her name.  She was nice and courtesy.  She said that she was at ******** ******** and that they were willing to help them out but they had to be put on the account for that to happen. I told her that for that to happen they would have to come in. They asked if I could just add them to the account since it was a family member of ******’s.  Since we work with ******** ******** quite a bit, I said I would, temporally add them, providing they came in the next day and fill out the required paperwork to put them in as the correct clients, which they still have not done as of 9/2/22. Due to them not coming in a signing the proper paperwork, I will be going out and turning the water off until all paperwork is completed.

As for them asking for a bill adjustment, I am not sure what bill they think they need adjusted, since up to this point ****** **** has not had to pay a penny out of his pocket. Other then a little time and inconvenience he has not had to pay for anything.
