      This filing of complaint is about horizon credit Union located at *** ***** ********* ****** ********** ******** *****. On August 19th 2024 I opened an account with a check that I was given by my attorney that I had obtained from a car accident. Upon opening the account a woman named ***** informed me that my funds would be available within 3 to 5 business days. After the fifth day my benefits were still not available I spoke with her again she then informed me that it would be now seven business days before my funds were available I then contacted the other party Bank to see if the funds had been released from their Bank so that horizon would be able to get them they informed me that they were released to be taken by the credit union a day previously yet horizon credit Union had not accepted the money. I then went on to the ncua website and educated myself about how credit unions are supposed to work and it states that anything held over the five days is supposed to be given to me in written form the reasoning why they're holding it and most causes is because the check has been returned and is unpaid which was not the case in my situation. They never provided me with any type of paperwork at all explaining anything to me about why my funds were being held and not released to me. I then came in on the 7th business day expecting my funds and they informed me that I would have to wait yet another week for my funds to be available I informed them that that was illegal and that they could not do that unless they gave me detailed written explanation as to why they were doing it they then proceeded to give me written receipt saying that my funds would be available the very next business day which would be August 27th. August 27th my funds were not available despite the fact that they have given me written signature signed paperwork stating that my funds would be available that day. They continue to hold my funds and keep my money from me despite all my efforts.

      Attn Dispute Resolutions:
      Potential member came into Horizon Credit Union located at
      *** * ********* **., Kirksville, MO on August 19,2024 to open an account with
      us. She presented an out of State check in the amount of $21,680.03 to open the
      account.
      Member Service Representative for the credit union, completed
      a Notice of Hold form, that was given to member at time of account opening. Member
      Service representative allowed $225.00 for immediate availability and put the
      remainder $21,680.03 on a 5 day hold with funds available on August 27th.
       
      Member states in her complaint statement that we gave her
      written statement saying her funds would be available that day, August 27th.
      Member came into Horizon Credit Union on August 27th and
      withdrew a total of $12,280.00 from her account.
      As per our policy on check holds, all were followed as
      stated on the Notice of Hold form.
      Member has since closed her account with Horizon Credit
      Union.
