4k Construction was hired to reroof our house, guest house, and garage. Job was finished on May 31 and paid. A few days later it rained and the rain was leaking behind the gutters. ***** sent one person out to fix it and he screwed the gutter to the facia board and covered the area with silicone. Problem still exists on all gutters. Further inspection shows areas where bare wood is exposed on the roof. Shingles have been damaged all over the roof and need to be replaced, They are ripped, torn, and have damage areas where it is down to the fiberglas inside the shingle. Many spots where the asphalt is missing. The ridge cap is not correct, metal facia covers were installed but to short and show bare wood. The garage and guest house have many damaged sheets of tin to include chopped cut edges, scratched all over the tin. holes where screws have been removed, Tin was shoved under other pieces on an slope change and was scratched dented and torn. Most of the tin and trim are all chopped up and cut up are not done right. Contractor told me that the shingles are 100% perfect. These roofs and gutters have failed since the day they was installed. These issues need to be repaired and replaced. With the quality of installation, the roofs will prematurely fail. I paid for a new roof with new material not for my roofs to be redone with used quality material. Have many more pictures.

Upon notification of issues at the residence we fixed all of the issues that were the fault of my company. We are trained roofers using the appropriate shoes and equipment such as pitch hoppers to keep us from damaging shingles. The scars on the shingles are from the home owner getting on the roof in heavy tread work boots. Unfortunately, we do not have up close pictures of the finished shingles to validate this point. In regards to the metal roof, many pieces of metal were damaged from someone walking across the ribs of the metal. This is something that experienced roofers 100% know not to do. Our crew fixed everything that was unsatisfactory to the customer that was our original work. We can not help how the customer chose to walk across their roof after we have properly installed it. There were small over sights such as screw holes being missed or some plastic that got left on the shingles, every bit of this was fixed. We will 100% always stand behind our work but do not feel that it is our place to take the fall when a customer scars their shingles by walking on a very steep pitch roof.

In regards to the case submitted by ***** *********,

As stated previously, 4K Construction stood behind our work and fixed any small issues that were seen to be the result of our work. There were several other factors that had affected the longevity of the shingles that were not due to our workmanship. The shingle manufacturer, Owings Corning inspected the roof and saw no damaged that was from improper installation. The company that manufactures the metal inspected the metal roof and again had the same conclusion that there was nothing wrong with how the metal roof was installed. The home owner had interior water damage prior to us completing their new roof. They are now trying to push that water damage onto us. We are done responding to this matter as there has been legal action taken.

    Thanks

    Customer Answer

In response to 4K Construction, we have provided numerous records and statements from various sources, detailing the improper installation of the shingled roof and the 2 metal roofs-along with the failed guttering.  We filed a warranty claim which was rejected by the company, as determined by the shingles that were removed as evidence and the recordings of the licensed roofing professional during the inspection & removal of all 3, 4K roofs.  Owens Corning themselves, has not been here to inspect the roofs.  We have contacted the metal company to see if the sheets of metal were damaged, wrinkled, bent, deeply scratched, scattered nail holes before the arrival to this property and they said they would never sell metal "like that". We have actually used the same metal company to furnish the new metal, placed by a true roofing professional, and it was flawless upon arrival and flawless upon roof completion. 4K has NOT stood behind their work.  If they had, we would have received a refund in order to replace the 3 roofs that leaked upon completion or offered some sort of compensation to address all of the flaws within the roofing systems.  There have never been any leaks within our home until our roof was removed and the  new 4K roof was placed.  The improper spacing of shingles, the improper nailing (off of the nail strips), the lack of properly placed underlayment and the improperly nailed ridge cap was found to be the cause of the leaking-as determined by ******** **** ****** adjuster--which is actually- also 4K Construction's insurance company, as well..  They have acknowledged their insured's error and will be covering the repair of the interior damage, as they do not cover workmanship. There have been no outside factors that would cause such extensive damage, right down to the base layer that was exposed by 4K Construction and their crew.  We have filed litigation in this matter and will continue to see it through, in its entirety--until this is resolved and we have been compensated for such a huge loss at the hands of this company.  We have since been made aware of others who have been dealing with the same issues after the completion of 4K's work.  I would love to see the reports form the Owens Corning "inspection" that 4K claims to have taken place or the report from the metal company--in which we have been in full communication with--they also do not cover damage caused by poor workmanship.  Once again, these are all false claims made by 4K Construction.  We have a stack of evidence a mile high and have been more than happy to share this with the BBB all along the way.  Where is the supporting evidence from 4K Construction? There is none.
