Unfortunately this customer/patient is being disingenuous about what happened during his appointment and the events that transpired afterward. This patient is upset that he was sent to our collection agency after he did not respond to our several attempts to reach out to him to settle his account. He presented to us in November as a new patient with a severely infected, broken, painful tooth. After receiving a breakdown of benefits from his insurance carrier, we presented him with a treatment plan ESTIMATE. This plan disclosed our fees, what we estimated his insurance to pay, and what his estimated out of pocket portion would be. On this form, it states in regular print right next to the signature line that "Insurance coverage is only an ESTIMATION. Guarantor is responsible for all treatment not covered by insurance." He signed this form, agreed to move forward with treatment, and paid his estimated portion. In addition, he signed our financial agreement, which states that payment is ultimately the responsibility of the patient and, "In the event of a partial [insurance] payment, the patient agrees that he or she will be responsible for paying the balance/copayment on the account. Based on the information received for the patient's insurance carrier, New Creation will estimate applicable copayments. The estimated portion of the balance/copayments will be due at time of service. In the event that New Creation estimates a balance/copayment that is less than the actual cost after insurance payment is made, New Creation will bill the patient for the outstanding balance..." His insurance did pay most of the claim, but it did not pay a small portion leaving the patient a balance. In his Explanation of Benefits (EOB) that both we and he received from his insurance carrier regarding the claim, it states that this non-covered portion is "PATIENT RESPONSIBILITY." The patient clearly owes us the money as evidenced by his EOB, and he signed 2 separate forms agreeing to pay the balance if insurance didn't pay it all. We did not cheat this patient; he knew the fees up front and his financial responsibility in the event that insurance didn't pay what we estimated. We treated him fairly and gave him plenty of notice and opportunity to settle his account and pay his bill. Unfortunately he has resorted to lashing out at us, maligning us here at the BBB and on social media for something he caused. He just doesn't want to pay his bill and is angry he was sent to collection and is being held accountable for what he agreed to pay.Regarding his tooth being chipped during extraction, this is the first we are are hearing of this. There is no mention of this in his chart, nor did he complain about it that day or in the several months since the procedure.
