I informed both my advisor at Crowder College and *********************** that I would be enrolled at the two schools concurrently. Nobody ever told me that it would be an issue with my financial aid. Today, I received a call from ***** ********, Director of Financial Aid. I was at work, so I emailed her to ask what the call was in regard to. Come to find out, Crowder had to return my financial aid back to the federal government because the two schools and my advisor at Crowder failed to communicate with one another. Now, suddenly I owe $3,697. In order for me to enroll in a payment plan, the down payment and monthly payments are going to cost me an entire paycheck. I have bills and a family to support, and I can't be dedicating my entire paycheck to Crowder because of someone else's mistake. I did what I was supposed to do and communicate with both schools that I would be attending concurrently, and nothing was said or done. This is not my mistake that was made. It is the school. I find it quite ridiculous that the school made a mistake and now I am having to pay for it. It is not fair that I now owe Crowder almost $4,000 because of someone else's mistake. I will not be able to graduate in May simply because of this one factor. This could have been avoided had the staff done their jobs. A payment plan could have been feasible had I of known about this complication before the middle of the semester. I told ******* to return my financial aid instead of ****** because working on my Bachelor's Degree is far more beneficial to me than an Associate's Degree. Not to mention my in person Report Writing Class. The professor is frequently cancelling class due to court. Now I am having to pay out of pocket for an in person class that isn't even held.

      Business Response

      Date: 03/26/2025

The complainant submitted a complaint that was received in my office on 3.7.2025. Our office contacted the complainant and we advised her of the federal financial aid requirements, the responsibility of both colleges who were attempting to disburse the federal financial aid to her, and we also shared our full investigation into the advisement she was given during her enrollment appointments with Crowder.  We provided her with a number of options in order to remain enrolled, completed her degree and make payments based her individual circumstances.  On 3.12.2025 we fully resolved the complaint and she followed up on the matter with our financial aid and cashier's offices on 3.24.2025 (the first day the college was open after being closed for spring break). This matter has been fully resolved.
