If I could rate this business and my experience lower than 1, I would do so. I have had plenty of work done by various contractors, including having 3 separate roofs replaced, during my over 30 years of owning homes. Out of all of those experiences, I have never had such a disappointing and subpar job as was done by Fidler roofing. In fact, this is the first time I have ever taken the time to “review” a business to the BBB.
There is a laundry list of issues with the experience and the workmanship, but I am only providing what I found to be the lowlights as follows:
Perhaps my biggest issue, aside from quality of workmanship and dishonesty, was the fact that I signed the contract in early November of 2023. I paid the final invoice on 28 May, 2024. 7+ months to complete and close out a job that should have been completed in two days at most, and closed out maybe a week later.
The individual who came to our home to give us the estimate specifically stated that he would be with the crew, on the job, during the roof repairs and replacement. Once I signed the contract, I did not see him again for nearly 6 months.
Once I finally picked a shingle that was in-stock (none of our top 3 choices), it took another several weeks to get them on the job site. The crew would show up and work a half day before leaving for something else, sometimes for days. When it became obvious that they would not have the job completed by Thanksgiving, I requested that they NOT be on my roof on Thanksgiving Day. At 9AM on that day, the crew was on my roof. They were not there to work, but were there to cover the unfinished areas of my roof that had been stripped of shingles and left bare, with tarps.
They left two soda bottles under the eaves that I had to get up on the roof to dispose of.
They also lost a large piece of trim that went over the windows on the front of my house. The replacement job was laughable.
I would not let this company put shingles on my doghouse. TERRIBLE!!????

Fidler on the Roof KC appreciated the opportunity to serve Mr. M****. We also welcome his feedback regarding our services. It would have been constructive if Mr. M**** had shared his complaints with us during the project instead of after it was entirely completed. Our first knowledge of these concerns was when he publicly posted them on the BBB site. If he had contacted us personally, we would have sought to resolve any problems he brought forward. (In the one instance where Mr. M**** shared a concern, we responded immediately.)
Our short response to Mr. M****’s critiques is that we have a vastly different record of the events that transpired before, during and after the roof was completed. Our standard practice is to document and record transactions with customers. Our review of these records tells a story that is significantly different from Mr. M****’s. We will highlight a few of these points.
In fairness to our crew and with respect to Mr. M****’s wishes, we certainly did not want our team on his roof on Thanksgiving Day. However, we made a brief appearance because precipitation was forecast and we wanted to protect his property with tarps. Concerned about weather, our team took initiative and secured the roof from the elements. We do not apologize for this. The alternative would have been to let precipitation harm Mr. M****’s property. We do not believe this would have been his preferred outcome.?
Mr. M**** states the roofing job took seven months to complete. This could leave the impression that his home lay vulnerable to the elements, half undone, for this period of time. In fact, we finished the roofing job in five business days. The other time variables were related to communication with the insurer – things that are generally out of our hands. In terms of construction, the job was completed quickly and efficiently and the roof swiftly put back in working order. ?
Mr. M**** states that Fidler on the Roof KC promised that its sales representative would be onsite at all times. This is not, nor has it ever been, our policy. How could reps meet with customers if they never left a job site? We will credit Mr. M**** with misunderstanding our statement. Our policy is that a sales rep or manager will visit job sites regularly. This is exactly what we did.?
Mr. M**** contends we engaged in shoddy craftsmanship. This is the one factor we were made aware of. Indeed, there were a few mistakes in terms of shingle alignment and a broken piece of trim. We looked at the issue with Mr. M****, agreed with his assessment, and promptly fixed everything to his satisfaction. ?
Finally, our review of the records reveals numerous instances of Mr. M**** offering positive comments about our work along with expressions of gratitude and “good job.” He raised one issue with us; we resolved it to his satisfaction. We finished the job with a handshake and well wishes from both parties. Therefore, we were surprised and disappointed to see a litany of complaints aired against us publicly. We go the extra mile to resolve problems and respond to concerns. But we can do neither if we are not made aware of them.
