On 2/19/2024 our daughter had a dentist appointment to get her teeth cleaned. They wanted to take x-rays first and she refused to get x-rays, they asked why and she told them she didn't want any more radiation. The hygienist talked to the dentist and our daughter overheard the dentist say "that is not a valid excuse", and then she was told that in order for her teeth to be cleaned she would have to have x-rays, she refused again and they refused to treat her so she left. We then get a bill for $40 for a missed appointment so we called them and the office manager was rude and said we missed the appointment and we told her that our daughter was there and was refused service and did not miss the appointment. We have since received another email saying we have to pay the $40 even though we were refused to be seen:

Hi *********  I spoke with Dr. ****** ***** in regards to the $40 fee..

Dr. ***** follows the ADA guidelines of x-rays once per year. This enables Dr. ***** to see if there is any decay, bone loss, jaw malposition or shifts in the teeth. These are things that can often be difficult to see during a routine exam.

Dr. ***** requires current x-rays (1x1yr). The last x-rays we have on file for ******* are dated 11/21/22. This is why we were not able to see ******* on 2/19/2024.

Dr. ***** feels the fee applies as we were not able to see ******* without current x-rays.

This is not about competency of a dentist, this is about refusal of service and then charging us for not being seen.
