I had some work done on my car, they put on 3 new catalytic converters. The car is still not running right now they are telling me that they can&#**;t do anything about it. I would like my money back to go somewhere else to get it repaired. I just want my car back.

The customer brought the car in and told us it needed a fuel filter. During our inspection we found that the catalytic converters were stopped up causing them to get hot resulting in melted wires and melting the intake plenum. We replaced those parts along with the fuel filter and a tune-up per customers request. They took the vehicle and brought it back a month later saying the speed drops when they reach 70 mph. We replaced the throttle position sensor, idle air control valve and mass air flow sensor. As we were doing more diagnostics the rpm went up and it would not move, end result the torque converter is out. I have tried to contact him with a price to see if he wants to continue with no response. He has never asked for a refund, he implied he was waiting on a price so we could finish the repairs. We must  go though the steps in diagnosing as one problem will affect another part.

The first time we brought the vehicle (2014 Chevrolet Equinox) into the shop was February 7, 2024. We brought it in for a second opinion because the previous mechanic said the issue was the catalytic converter and we didn't want to spend $800 right away without another opinion. February 8, 2024 they contacted us and said it was just some sensors and the air filter that needed to be replaced and there was NOTHING WRONG with the catalytic converter. We picked it up on February 9, 2024 and paid $402. February 15, 2024 the engine light came back on. We dropped it back off on February 19, 2024. February 20, 2024 WE had to call to find out what was wrong and they told us it was the throttle body this time. February 23, 2024 we called and they told us they didn't know anything and still hadn't put the car in the shop. They contacted us on February 29, 2024 and said it was done and the cost was $363. We picked it up on March 1, 2024 and paid the $363. March 4, 2024 the engine light came back on and we took it back. They took it back immediately and had it hooked up to the scanner for less than 10 minutes which was an immediate red flag, considering the last two times it took WAY MORE than ten minutes to diagnose the issue. They came out and said the issue was the catalytic converter, the very first thing that we came for a second opinion for and they said it was NOT THE PROBLEM. I do believe we've been gouged of money and now they want to charge over $800 for parts and labor to fix the catalytic converter. That's double for what we would've just paid in the first place to fix the ACTUAL ISSUE. They also told us they would reset the engine light. That there tells me that they have been resetting it every time we've went to make it seem like they've "fixed" the problem until they finally got the chance to charge over $1600. I have attached the $363 receipt but I am unfortunately missing the $402 receipt.

There is a sign in the waiting room stating that your catalytic converter should never have failed, it list things that could have caused the problem. It also states that the warranty on a new catalytic converter will not cover a replacement if your vehicle has these issues. I make a point to mention the sign to all customers with a catalytic converter code. A visual inspection of the catalytic converter showed the converter to be in good shape. The customer approved all repairs with the understanding that the problems had to be taken care of prior to the catalytic converter being replaced. The engine light has to be reset in order to see which code returns. The other problem codes went away as the repairs were done, leaving only the catalytic converter code. It did take a short time to read the one code that was in the vehicle. They also complained about how long it would take and please understand that we have other customers and at times we are short handed due to illness.
