Found business owned by **** ****** on ********, Millennium Home Improvement, with mostly good reviews. He came to see needed work on 26 April and I decided to hire him to install a replacement front door at my condo for the cost of $300 plus $45 for materials bought by contractor. First part of work was done on 4 May including removal of old door and its frame, cutting of original exterior wall to allow installation of new prehung door, and installation through doorknob and deadbolt to allow for overnight locking. It was very difficult to get contractor to return to finish the work. Finally, he returned 31 Oct. and completed the job in a very unsatisfactory way. Workmanship is very poor quality and it appears unsafe with much of both the deadbolt and doorknob latches showing in the space between the door and door frame. The strike plates don't match their locks and one appears to be gouged out, not professionally cut into the jamb. Overall work is very sloppy and bad. A new contractor is needed to repair all issues noted; I would not trust this person to do good work to remedy problem.

    Business Response

Complainant's Building was built with thick sheet rock and steel door frames. Everything in/near door jamb needed to be replaced due to door damage. On first visit, complainant was told she needed a steel frame door, ($2500 plus installation cost). Customer purchased a wooden door and a wooden door frame. Business told complainant that things would look off, and things wouldn't line up due to the thickness difference between the wood and the steel. Consumer seemed happy with installation at the end of the day.  Business didn't keep contact with complainant due COVID 19 issues and a death in the family. Business is offering a refund of half of the installation cost. Business did spend quit a bit of money on trim pieces and did not charge her for them since there was a large chunk of time with no contact from the business.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and find that this resolution for refund of half of installation cost, $150, is satisfactory to me.  I do not agree with everything stated in his message though.  First- "was told she needed a steel frame door" -nothing was said about the frame being steel as well as the door.  I knew the original door was steel and a steel replacement was purchased not wood as he states.  But I wasn't told to be sure to that the prehung door also had a steel frame.  The contractor picked up the door and if he thought it wasn't good or appropriate choice, he should have called or sent a text telling me that so the correct purchase could be made.

Second, "Customer seemed happy with installation" -it took almost 6 months for him to return to finish its installation and when he 'finished' he didn't go over how the installation looked.  He didn't do a punch-list analysis of the work making sure lines were straight, plumb, mitered corners matched and there were no unexpected gaps, nor did he ask whether I was satisfied.  I was glad to have the work 'finished' finally and didn't look at it closely until after he left.

For the $150 refund, I would like either a certified check or money order be sent to my home address within 7 calendar days.

    Regards,
