Been trying to get an appointment for a month. Also asked clarifying questions because I want to know what care would be like. These questions were mostly about what therapeutic methods were employed and how long appointments would last. The individual ignored many of my questions and gave very short responses that werent helpful. I did express discontent with how far in advance you have to schedule an appointment but I still made clear that I was willing to make an appointment. Now after a month Ive still not been able to get an appointment because this individual doesnt respond with much information or just doesnt respond at all. Ive now waited over a week just to hear back after sending 2 separate follow-ups asking for a response. Im just struggling to understand why its so hard to set up an appointment or get basic information about what to expect if I go to them. Im sure the psychiatrists are great but the administrative side of things has been extremely frustrating.

I sought out help in a really low point in my life. I had just lost two family members, my job, and starting distances myself from family and friends. I reached out to St Louis Behavioral Health to try and finally get back on my feet. When I had a consultation with one of their psychologists, he wanted to do an assessment of my anxiety and depression which I already have a diagnosis of and shared that with him in our first conversation. I shared my interest was to talk with a professional about the best first steps in addressing my mental health. He said we needed to do the testing before any other intervention. He quoted me an amount for the testing which I told him I was not able to pay on top of student debts and living on my own. He simplified the testing to half the amount and I reluctantly agreed despite it still being quite expensive. He scheduled a follow up after the testing to read a piece of paper and tell me I have anxiety and depression and told me to talk to their referral department if I wanted to be treated by another psychologist. It was clear he did not want to be my psychologist. I attempted to call and receive a referral twice but sat on hold long enough that I gave up. I then received a bill in the mail almost double the amount he told me it would cost and when I raised concern with the billing department they told me it was my fault for not knowing how much mental health visits cost and that they are not responsible for being transparent about how much the full treatment would cost. I am now in debt to St Louis Behavioral Health and Ive lost a ************ in Mental Healthcare. I asked if they could do a payment plan, the woman said she would look into it a week ago and I have not heard anything since. A very very hard ****** to learn at 24. He is not a comforting person to talk to and does not genuinely care to help you get back on your feet.
