**** gave me a bid for tuckpointing/window seal and sealing up the base of my house. He came with 2 guys for a half day and short ladders. He refused to give me anything in writing, I should not have paid him all ***** upfront. He came back when I said he had not done the job we agreed to - brought an angry man for 20 minutes and told me to tell him what to do. I have been asking for a receipt for the work and a reimbursement for 2 years. He is agressive and rude. He totally scammed me. I know I made a mistake by not getting this in writing, and I don't want him to scam other people in my neighborhood. I am a single mom, so pretty rough experience financially. His reviews show him to be a scammer. He pressures people into placing a review before work has even started.Business Response

Ms. ****** agreed to the price and hastily authorized the work, which was done to her satisfaction. We never leave a job until it is completed and the homeowner is 100% happy with our work. We wouldn't have a stellar rating on the BBB if we did otherwise. However, Ms. ****** decided she had overpaid and demanded a refund... two years later! This scam included threats to our reputation via negative reviews. (I possess documented proof of this.) Giving her the benefit of the doubt, we returned twice to address any potential issues, but they were nonexistent. Certainly none of my workers were "angry," only hardworking and serious about their craftsmanship. Afterall, they're paid the same regardless if it's a new job or addressing an old one; that's never their problem. I'm sorry if Ms. ****** is experiencing financial difficulties, but that doesn't give her the right to blackmail contractors for free work.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because: He claims I accepted the job when I have years of text messages asking him to provide a receipt for the work he did, and he is unable. He is a scammer, he pressures people into giving reviews before the job is finished. You can see other homeowners complaints of this online. He did not return twice, he returned once. He hired the active meth user from next door, he does not have the professional employees he speaks of.

Transaction Dates: November 7-8, 2024)I hired Irish Construction to redo my front porch, repair my back stairs, and other misc work for $8,000. The workmanship was extremely poor, and repeated attempts to patch the issues often made them worse. On November 17, the owner, came to speak to me in person after three prior failed repair attempts, but the interaction was unproductive and unprofessional.During the meeting, ******* agreed to attempt minimal fixes and dismissed all other concerns. He and his crew were aggressive. When I asked him to leave my property, he insisted on fixing it now, so I allowed him to proceed. He spent about 20 minutes on small repairs but ignored all other concerns. He continued to claim the work was a perfect job, ignoring concerns about sloppy workmanship and structural issues.******* made racist remarks during the visit. One of his workers yelled at me to "mind my business" and that he was serious. ******* also threatened to contact my girlfriends boss because we were critical of him, continued to threaten a baseless lien on my property, and demanded the names of contractors and others who gave me negative feedback about his work. When I refused, he became increasingly hostile. He even made an inappropriate comment to my girlfriend, claiming no one would care if she disappeared. I hired him. He didn't hire me.Over text, Anthonys behavior was equally unprofessional. He dismissed my concerns as ridiculous, insisted the work was perfect, and avoided addressing obvious issues like mismatched materials, peeling surfaces, and uneven construction. He told me to be careful how I proceed, a clear intimidation tactic, while refusing to take accountability for his poor-quality work.While minimal attempts were made to make things better, they were no where near enough. I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because:His brief reply, filled with baseless accusations, was about as expected based on my experiences with him throughout this process. Rather than taking responsibility for the poor quality of the work or addressing my documented concerns, ******* has resorted to dismissiveness, deflection, and fabricating new claims.
Anthonys claims are false, and I have detailed evidence to support my concerns, including audio recordings from our meeting on November 17, as well as texts, emails, and photos from throughout this process. These materials not only demonstrate the poor workmanship but also highlight Anthonys ongoing unprofessionalism and refusal to address my concerns in a meaningful way. I have shared some of the audio recordings with the BBB, along with my original email expressing concerns about the work immediately after it was completed, and additional text messages in which ******* dismisses my concerns, claims the work was perfect, and engages in unprofessional behavior. I am willing to share more, if needed.
From the start, ******* convinced me that his design idea was better than what I initially wanted, which was something similar to what my neighbors had. He dismissed my input and insisted that his approach would look better and be more effective. In hindsight, it is clear this was a way for him to save time and money, as the end result does not reflect his claims of being "better" in any way. Instead, the work was rushed, poorly executed, and riddled with issues that required repair attempts and additional contractors to address.
I have attached photos showing the condition of the project before the work began, on the day the work was completed, after several repair attempts, and three weeks after Anthonys personal visit on November 17. These images highlight numerous issues, including cracks, peeling finishes, mismatched materials, and other signs of rushed and unprofessional work. I acknowledge that they did do work, which is why I am not asking for a 100% refund or a "free job."
"Making up situations that never happened":
Every detail I provided in my original complaint, to my knowledge, is accurate. I have audio recordings of our November 17 meeting that document Anthonys inappropriate comments, dismissive behavior, and failure to address concerns. Additionally, the texts and emails I have shared with the BBB further demonstrate Anthonys unwillingness to resolve issues, his unprofessional tone, and his threats to file a lien on my property after I raised concerns about the quality of his work.
"Trying to get a free job":
This accusation is baseless. The initial quote for the project was $6,500. During our discussions, ******* upsold me on additional concrete work around my homes foundation, which I agreed to, bringing the total to $7,500. During the job, he asked for an additional $500, which I paid in full. The cashed checks total $8,000. I am requesting a $3,500 refund due to the substandard work, which is far below professional standards and has been valued by multiple contractors at no more than $5,000 if done correctly. Requesting less than half of what I paid for a botched job is reasonable and does not equate to trying to get a free job. While we are on the topic of what he was paid. When they were nearing the end of their work he tried to upsell me again on doing more concrete work in the back, after I refused (3 times) he then rushed his workers off after I said I had no more money to give. His workers were actively working in that moment, but he rushed them off.
"He still owes me $1,000":
This claim is entirely false. I paid in full for all agreed-upon work, including the upsell and the additional $500. There was no agreement or contract stating I owed any further payments. ******* has repeatedly made up new numbers for what he claims I owe him, without providing any explanation or breakdown of these amounts. His claim is yet another intimidation tactic, consistent with his previous threats to file a lien on my property.
"Trees and bushes removed for $700":
The removal of bushes was included in the original $6,500 agreement, as acknowledged during our discussions. There was no mention of an additional $700 charge for this work, nor did I agree to or approve such a charge. Anthonys claim is fabricated and misleading.
"The work is excellent":
The work is objectively poor. The retaining walls were improperly constructed without drainage, which is critical for their longevity. ******* claimed the walls didnt need drainage, but multiple contractors have confirmed this is incorrect and that the walls are structurally unsound without it. I ultimately had to hire a professional contractor to add drainage to the walls after ******* refused to address the issue.
The pavers on the porch columns were another major problem. They were too large and blocked a required railing. ******* dismissed my concerns about the size of the pavers, insisting that city codes didnt matter. His only suggestion for fixing the issue was that he could take a sledgehammer to the columns if I didnt like theman unprofessional and unrealistic offer. I had to hire another contractor to shave down the oversized pavers properly.Additional issues include uneven retaining walls, mismatched materials, peeling finishes, cracks throughout, and asymmetrical, poorly aligned elements that make the work look unfinished and unprofessional. The solution to the mismatched colors was the I could paint them myself, as if things shouldn't have matched from the beginning. Despite four repair attempts (three by his crew and one by ******* himself), the problems persist, and in some cases, the repairs made things worse.
Unprofessional Behavior:
Anthonys behavior throughout this process has been unprofessional and hostile. When I initially voiced concerns, he dismissed them as ridiculous, called the work perfect, and focused on asking how his reviews were coming rather than addressing the glaring issues. After I mentioned I was likely leaving negative reviews, he threatened to file a lien on my property, claiming I owed him money despite being paid in full.
During our in-person meeting on November 17, ******* continued this pattern of intimidation. His opening remarks were self-aggrandizing, claiming he had made a documentary, appeared on TV shows, and knew the best lawyers. He demanded to know the names of contractors who reviewed the work and gave me their professional opinions, and insisted I take him to them. He also demanded the names of people in the community who shared negative experiences about him and to "take him to them", which was deeply unsettling.
Anthonys behavior escalated to inappropriate and offensive comments. He made racist remarks during the meeting, and one of his workers yelled at me in a threatening tone because I brought up other issues people I had spoke to shared, while yelling that he meant it. ******* also threatened to contact my girlfriends boss, and made many numerous weird and inappropriate comments. I hired him, he didn't hire me.
Anthonys response to my complaint is another attempt to deflect responsibility and avoid accountability for the substandard work and unprofessional behavior. I paid $8,000 in full for a project that was rushed, poorly executed, and failed to meet basic quality standards. Requesting a $3,500 refund is not unreasonableit is a fair attempt to recover funds for work that multiple professionals have valued at no more than $5,000 if done correctly.The attached photos provide clear evidence of the poor workmanship and ongoing issues, showing the project before, during, and after the work, as well as the condition after multiple repair attempts and three weeks after Anthonys final visit. I urge the BBB to review these photos, the audio recordings, the original email I sent expressing concerns, and the additional text documentation, which further demonstrate the validity of my concerns.

I reject Anthonys latest response, as it contains false claims and continues to misrepresent the facts. Furthermore, ******* has consistently avoided addressing his unprofessional and inappropriate behavior throughout this process. I do not think ******* is reading my complaints and or is incapable of reading fully. Due to ********* inability to address anything in a meaningful way I am requesting mediation.
******* now claims the job was $4,000 for the front of the house and $4,000 for the back. However, this is inconsistent with the initial agreement and conversations. The original quote was $6,500, which included both front and back work, as well as the removal of bushes. I was upsold on additional concrete work, bringing the total to $7,500. During the job, ******* requested an additional $500, which I paid in full. The cashed checks confirm that I paid $8,000 in total.Anthonys assertion that I owe him for the columns and bushes is entirely fabricated. The removal of bushes was included in the original agreement for $6,500, and there was no mention of additional charges for this work. The columns were part of the work done but were never discussed as an extra charge. ******* cannot retroactively demand payment for items he claimed were already covered or that were not part of any agreed-upon cost. He refused to write up a contract, so I don't know how he can claim that I owe him more money. I believe him saying I owe him money is deflection from the issues and a way to make it sound unreasonable that I am asking for money. This started as intimidation by saying I owe him more money and now it is deflection. In the timeline you can clearly see he started making up numbers only after I said I would leave bad reviews, which I have yet to do.
******* has not addressed the numerous documented issues with his work, that have been highlighted in the previous complaint messages. Photos and contractor evaluations confirm that the work was rushed, substandard, and valued at no more than $5,000 IF DONE CORRECTLY, which it was not. I shouldn't have to repeat the same issues over and over again but ******* has again failed to address them in his response.
******* has completely ignored the serious concerns about his unprofessional and hostile behavior during this project that have been documented in the previous messages in this complaint that ******* has either not read or is choosing to ignore. The documented behavior is unacceptable and deeply concerning. His refusal to acknowledge or apologize for his conduct only further demonstrates his lack of professionalism and accountability. Since this I have spoken to even more people who can corroborate his repeated history of concerning behavior and poor workmanship.
Anthonys attempts to fabricate charges and claim I owe him money are baseless intimidation and deflection tactics. His repeated attempts to deflect responsibility and add unfounded charges only further highlight the lack of professionalism and integrity in this process. This is not new, throughout the process of trying to get him to fix things he also resorted to deflection and intimidation and tried to belittle and dismiss anyone who disagreed.
I stand by my request for a $3,500 refund, which is fair given the poor quality of work and the significant costs I have incurred hiring other contractors to fix the issues ******* refused to address. I urge the BBB to consider the evidence provided, including photos, emails, texts, and audio recordings, which substantiate my complaint.
I am requesting mediation as it is clear ******* is choosing to ignore this complaint and refuses to write more than a few sentences in response.

2/12/2025 PE: Spoke with ***** at length about the mediation process. He will be obtaining an estimate from a company of his choosing to evaluate the work done by Irish Construction. He will email that to me. Once that is complete, then I'll reach out to Irish Construction about making a good faith effort in refunding the consumer. ***** does not want to work any longer with Irish Construction.
2/17/2025 PE: email from *****: And were now up to 7 major cracks in the retaining wall, up from 5 last week. ***** ******
2/25/2025 PE: Left ***** a message inquiring about estimates. Asked for an email or return call. Later, I spoke with him and he is getting estimates pulled together. Likely the entire job will have to be demo'd and reconstructed.
3/5/2025 PE: Email from ***** with estimate, pictures, video. All documents filed in the library. Estimate is $17,900. Retaining wall will need to be reconstructed because the foundation is not stable.
3/12/2025 PE: Phone call into ***** on project. Business is requesting an assessment from a licensed engineer. Once engineer is obtained, case will go to arbitration.
3/12/2025 PE: ***** is waiting on two estimates from engineers for assessments. His decision to move forward with mediation is predicated on those estimates. Spoke with him at length today and he understands that an assessment is necessary to move forward. If that is obtained, then the case will go to arbitration.
3/17/2025 PE: Received an email from the consumer: After speaking to another engineer, he has also said getting a report would be a waste of time and money because **** will just say no to arbitration. All the engineers and contractors have heard of him and he needs to be out of business. I cant afford to sink that kind of money into this. Im still open to the idea of him coming and completely redoing it though. Other than that he gets to get away with no repercussions or anyone pressing him to even explain why he thinks he did a good job because he bullied the BBB too and became irrational and forced the case closed. It makes no sense for me to spend $1k+ when we already know who we are dealing with. I should have listened when everyone told me BBB couldnt do anything with this guy. I appreciate you taking the time anyway. Just defeating that I put work into detailing all of this and he just gets to have a temper tantrum and be done. He literally never addressed a single thing (other than say I was lying) and thats the most disappointing thing. I understand the limited power, its just frustrating. Im sure you understand. Someone told me I should have researched him on BBB and I did and he has an A+ rating.

Irish Construction did a plaster ceiling repair around the mid September. But the surface of the repair was not smooth and did not blend well with the existing. He said to let it dry for a week before painting. I gave it that time to see how it would finally dry. It started to develop some cracks. I called the office several times before **** finally called me back. And I texted pictures on October 12.
On or around November 3 two workers came by. They had to borrow my ladder. They then put on what appeared to be joint compound to smooth it out. When they finished, they asked me if it was okay. I might have pointed out a couple things and they tried to accommodate me. Then they did some clean up and left. It still wasn’t a very good job, but I was tired of dealing with it and would just finish it myself.
**** called November 8. I told him it was still rough. He said he’d come by. He was very busy. Some guys had covid. I sent more pictures as requested with no response. I texted again November 14. He said he was in a meeting and would get back to me later. No response. I texted on November 15 with no response. I texted again on November 16.
I did not receive a date. He called me on November 30 and said he would come by within an hour or else it would be a couple weeks before he could get by. The same two workers came by. We moved the table and rug. One got water to mix material and they both went outside. 20 minutes later I saw they left without letting me know. They came back in a couple hours. Again, they borrowed a ladder. I went upstairs as they worked. After 30 minutes they said they were done and left. They were gone before I got downstairs. I was not asked to look at the repair. They dumped joint compound in the toilet. I’m not sure what it was or how much they flushed. Aside from any plumbing issues, it is unprofessional. **** has not called me as of today. Flushing the joint compound is when I decided to file this complaint. The repair is still rough.Business Response

I have gone back three times to fix the job to resolve it. There was nothing wrong with the job to begin with. The consumer threaten my employees and told them to leave when they came back. So if this is their response now, why did their first response say it’s been resolved with the customer? And why wait months to respond to the original complaint only to say it’s been resolved?As I said in my original complaint, the final time they came to make corrections, they left without even talking to me. They yelled to me upstairs that they were done and leaving and were gone when I got downstairs. There was not even a conversation and no threats made. When they showed up, we went over my assessment of what I would like done. They said okay, I went upstairs, and they did some work and left. There were no conversations after the work was finished.
I have paid in full. I owe them nothing. I have no idea why he would say he isn’t worried about the balance. He quoted me $900 cash and he would do it the next day. I paid $400 cash and $500 in check because the bank wasn’t open the next morning by the time he was finished for me to get the remainder of the cash. He didn’t want to wait.
I would still like the job to be finished. But I doubt if they will do anything more. I expect a partial refund for an unsatisfactory job that has taken too long and is still unresolved.
