    I contracted with United Way Movers, DOT No. *******, through ************************** to ship 5 pieces of furniture, 7 pieces of artwork and 3 small boxes from *****, **, to ***********, **, on September 10, 2024. The shipment arrived 11 days later with significant damage, presumably caused by a motor vehicle accident. The mover packed all the artwork for shipment. The frames were encased with cardboard, wrapped in shrink wrap and covered in padded blankets. Upon delivery, the frames were broken, glass shattered, and 2 of the canvasses were torn; there was even glass embedded in the matte of one painting, suggesting a high velocity impact that penetrated the blankets, shrink wrap and cardboard. One large painting had a thick wood frame with wood molding and plexiglass, a highly durable material, that was cracked. A flat wrought iron yard hanging was broken in 2 places as if it had been run over by a truck. One piece of the iron hanging is missing. One small entry way table arrived with scratches and gouges on the top and all 4 sides as if thrown about a truck. Other items sustained similar damage. I have photos of the furniture and art before and after the move which I can provide to you. I filed a claim with United Way Movers on Oct. 1, 2024, pursuant to our contract and did not receive a response. I contacted their insurer, Progressive, to see if an accident claim had been filed, and *********** informed me that they did not have a claim, but reached out to United Way Movers to inquire about the circumstances of the damage, and likewise did not receive a response from them. I have not been reimbursed for the damages. Prior to the move, I was assured by Safe Ship that the shipment would be secured and segregated from other items on the moving van by a grate or barrier. No grates or barriers were present on the truck. The extent and quality of damage can only be the result of an undisclosed accident of some type and gross negligence on the part of the mover.
