I stayed at the Sleep Inn in Springfield, ** ***** while I was in the process of moving to **** on March 1st, 2023. My Greyhound ticket was cancelled and had to rebook it. While staying there I used the designated smoking area everytime. Even doing that I was charged the $250 because I field strip my cigarrettes and put them in my pocket because old Army habits are hard to quit. Because I threw the cigarrette butts away in the trash they used that as proof I smoked in the room. I am a chain smoker and my clothes probably smelled like smoke. But I did not smoke in the room. I filed a complaint with Choice Hotels which is the ************** and talked with the Manager *********************. "They use a special expert when it comes to this." Compartmentalization and no accountability as to who made the decision to rip me off of $250. Now I had to refinance a loan just to survive because of this unexpected expendature. They refuse to refund me the money because they "had" to clean the room. They should have to add a clause in the no smoking policy that if "they think you did" automatic charge of $250. If your clothes smell like smoke you will be charged $250. I am glad to be away from the greedy town of Springfield, MO which will rip you off everytime you turn around and leave you homeless on the streets to get harasssed by the police department.
