On February 20, 2023, I rented 100 feet sewer auger, electric and during the auguring process. The cable broke because of the roots in sewer line. I returned the auger to General Rental Center, at North Side, **** *************., ***********, **, and the roots were tangled around cable, which cause cable to break, as result of wear and tear of auger cable. I return ***** and have to rent another auger to complete job. I had to go to General Rental Center on Southside and rented 50 feet auger to complete the job. Upon completion return auger to Northside. I was advised that owner/manager name **** would be contacting me concerning the broken cable. Subsequently, on March 6, 2023, I discovered that **** had charge my credit card account an additional $375 dollars for cable. I advise business that I want broken cable, however, advised business had trash cable. This is fraud at highest degree charging my credit card $375 dollars plus the $113.38, totaling $388.00, which was not authorized, unfair business practices and I believed the decision was unfair business practices and fraud of consumer, whereas the cable broke while auguring sewer line and not by any negligence to myself. I have been renting augers in ***********, ** over 30 years. As such, has never been subjected to the egregious, fraudulent and unfair business practices of General Rental Center. I want all my money return to my credit card and Gerneral Rental Center cited for unfair business practices. I can upload two receipts because I want BBB compared good faith and receipts from business, I have been personally used auger for past thirty years and similar businesses view these type issues with a normal course of doing business of renting equipment. Please give matter BBB attention. ***********************

My name is ********************************. Our family has owned General Rental Center since ****. I was there when *********************** rented the machine. It went out in an operational manner. As stated in his complaint he returned it in a broken state. The reason was because it was pushed into roots and then continued to to turn the basket. The basket was spinning, but the end was not. Eventually this resulted in the line snapping. ************** returned the line dirty. (We believe it was used in a sewer line, and since it still was covered with the heavy roots that broke it we assumed it was also covered in ***** matter and various other hazards associated with sewer lines. I am sorry that ************** considers charging for broken items as " egregious," but he signed a contract with us agreeing to return the machine in its original condition, and that he "agree(d) to pay in full all replacement costs, including labor, for all damages to rental equipment due to any cause whatsoever."

I have reviewed the ticket and it looks like our store manager  **** did not charge him the full price of the replacement and also did not charge him any labor or the costs of shipping the broken 100'  foot piece of steel.

We are sorry that ************** does not feel like he was treated fairly, but if you read his own complaint it states the machine was intact when he received it. He snagged it in roots and over torqued it. The broken machine was returned with a mass of roots on the cable. The machine is designed with a reverse to avoid over torqueing the line.
