    Lesson learned. Do not assume that buying a vehicle from a dealer vs. an individual will afford you any protection from purchasing a vehicle with mechanical defects. We purchased a 2015 Honda CR-V from Lotspeich Automotive on 4/28/23. Within a month, the vehicle would intermittently not start. By the end of June, the vehicle would not start at all. I researched the possible problems & replaced the key fob battery & even the car battery. Over $700 later, my mechanic confirmed that it needed a new starter. I contacted the dealership & talked with our salesman and the used vehicle manager. They informed me that the starter is not covered under the powertrain warranty. I had already read the warranty details & understood that a starter is not covered; however, I would have expected any reputable dealer to stand behind the vehicles that they sell and at least guarantee that the darn thing will start less than 3 months after purchase. The lesson here is to please consider buying used vehicles from individuals. You will likely save $ on the commissions to the dealer & you (apparently) are just as likely to purchase a vehicle that needs repairs (not covered by the dealer) anyway.

    I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of replacing the starter.

    Lotspeich Automotive did provide a powertrain warranty on this
    vehicle as the customer is aware.  It
    would be impossible for our dealership to be able to predetermine if a starter would
    fail on a vehicle in one week, month or year. 
    As a company we place a powertrain warranty on vehicles to minimize the
    possible exposure a customer would have if something is to fail on the used
    vehicle they purchased from our dealership. 
    When purchasing a used vehicle, there will always be a risk of parts failure
    which unfortunately can never be predicted.

    As a matter of goodwill towards the customer in this
    situation we will be willing to offer $250.00.
