We received a bill for a debt we had no idea we owed until it was sent to collections. I then called them about the amount owed and they told me the bill had been sent to the wrong address. They made an error in where they sent the bill and proceeded to place our account in collections, never telling us about the debt until I reached out to them after receiving the letter from collections.  If I was aware of the money owed, it would have been paid.

    Business Response

    Date: 02/28/2023

When I spoke with Mrs. *****, (who her ******* was the patient) on her complaint of being sent to collections after being sent 7 statements with no response from she or Mr. *****, and not one of  the statements came back to our office from the post office as address unknown or undeliverable, we had no choice but to send to our collection agency.  I apologized to her telling her we had know way to know she was not getting her statements since they were not coming back to us.  She did get the letter from the collection agency with the same address we had been sending statements to.  She said I should have called her first before we sent Mr. ***** to collections, I told her we had to many patients to call everyone.  The last two statements have a note on them to contact the office to set up payment arrangements or the account will be turned to collection agency.
I also advised her to always look at her explanation of benefits she gets from her insurance company and or ******** to see the column that says, your provider may bill you $0.00.  I told her again I was sorry and told her they were  probably held up in a post office somewhere and she asked me if I was calling her a liar.  I politely told her I was not nor would I ever say she or  anyone was a liar.  I assured her I was being nice and just stated what I thought may have happened.
I assured her I would call the collection agency soon as we hang up to let them know of the account being paid in full, and  I did call the collection agency when we hung up. She was worried about it giving her bad credit.  I let her know I was pretty sure there was a grace period a person had to pay their account before it was even reported as a bad debt.
An apology was all I could do after the fact.  I hate they never got their statements and we never got them back from the post office so this did not happen.  Had we got them back from the post office, we would have called her to get the correct address.
