I went on August 22, 2024 for an eye exam and my insurance copay is only $10 and they charged me $35. After I looked on my insurance copay when I got home it's just $10 so I called them and they said they charge for a print out of your eye glass prescription at $25. At no time did they say it cost for the print out or have any signage in the office. I want my $25 back they charged me. Until they have signage or tell customers they don't need to charge that.

The patient was charged $25.00 for the refraction test that was done during the exam.  This test generates the prescription but the patient was not charged for the actual prescription.  We are allowed to charge for the refraction test as stated by insurance. Our office explained this to the patient.  Most medical insurances do not cover the refraction fee so this is why it was charged to the patient.  There is a sign at the front desk regarding the refraction fee and it is also in the financial waiver that each patient signs when establishing care with our practice.

The medical insurance does not cover the refraction fee so the $25.00 was charged to the patient.  The insurance is stating $10.00 copy for the exam which is correct but this has nothing to do with the refraction test.

I am rejecting this response because: well they need to tell people what they are doing because I would not pay for that I don't care if they want to do that test I didn't tell them to and they didn't say. All I want when I go in there is an eye exam no extra and that what it was suppose to be.

      Regards,

The refraction test is how we check a patient's vision and is part of the exam.  Insurances allow for it to be charged.  It is stated in our financial waivers along with a notice at the front desk.

I am rejecting this response because: yall have never did that before and don't need to do it now I just want a basic eye exam that all unless you ask me and let me see if the insurance covers it I'm not paying for anything insurance doesn't cover.

      Regards,

I am sorry for any misunderstanding but the refraction fee that we charge is not something new, we have always charged a refraction fee.  You have been charged a refraction fee before and have paid it.  If you receive the refraction test to check your vision, you will be charged a refraction fee.
