I had a roof replaced on my home and shop approximately 45 days ago and the roofers damaged the facia. They agreed to replace the facia but after three attempts the repairs look worse than the original damage they created. It’s appears the contractor does not know how to do the repair job. The clean up was sub-par as I have picked up 1 /2 gallon of nails and staples on the ground. The crew was still nailing shingles at 9 pm using cellphone flashlights which is unusual as 61 squares should have been a 2 day job, not one day. The roof job looks pretty decent but they done a terrible job of finish and clean up. After the third attempt to repair the facia I told the contractor to leave it alone as I would get someone more qualified to do the job.Business Response

Good evening.
Thank you for taking the time to fill out a form. Now, allow me to respond appropriately. The ongoing theme for the entirety of your project has been a constant shift in scope. The timeline of events is as follows:
Your roof was replaced. Yes we completed it in 1 day. Your initial reaction was that you were satisfied with the roof and our service in general.
10 days later (March 17) you sent me a text message that stated "When you get a chance I need to you to come out and look at the messed up facia and drip molding."
We had to maneuver our schedules (both you and I) for a meet up at your home. Our second meet up was on March 20, three days after you messaged me.
During our second meeting, you began showing me a couple of spots that required attention. You mentioned that the fascia was damaged and that we did it. You specifically mentioned two pieces on the rear elevation of your home. You also mentioned two pieces of drip edge on the front elevation. I said that I had a few extra pieces of fascia in my garage from previous jobs. The fascia should match.
March 26. We completed a roof nearby your home. Once we completed it, my crew and I came to your home to make the repairs that we had discussed. At this meeting you seemed like an entirely different person from the first two meetings. You were very hostile towards me and my crew. Up until this point, you had said nothing more than how satisfied you were with your roof. However, during this meeting, you said that it looked terrible and that we did a horrible job. Me, noticing your hostility, ordered my guys to begin making the repairs that you had requested. During this meeting, I put my ladder up to pull back some of the drip edge around the affected fascia areas. I was checking to make sure that we did not put any nails through the fascia (which would have caused damage). We did not. No nails were put through your fascia. You just kept saying, "It wasn't like that before." I noted that your current fascia did not have a hem on it which affects the integrity of the aluminum. It was also at this encounter that you showed me the right elevation of your home for the first time and said that we messed that up to. I went back through all of my photos from the initial roof inspection in December of 2024 to see if I had any close ups of your fascia before the replacement. I did not. Up until this point, the only thing I have to base your damaged fascia on is your word that we messed it up. I have not seen any photos pre roof replacement to corroborate your claim. At the end of this encounter, you told us to go and that you would have someone else come over to quote you.
Fast forward to March 31. You called me to schedule a meeting at your home. I came to your home so we could discuss this. You informed me that another contractor said that it would cost $3,400.00 to replace the fascia. I asked if this is just for the pieces that you mentioned to me (approximately 6-7) or if this was for the entirety of your fascia. Note: Not all of your fascia is damaged so that quote is not within the scope. Note: I still have no proof that we damaged your fascia, only your word that we did. At this meeting, I said that if it resolves this, I will replace the two pieces visible fascia on your back elevation as well as 4-5 pieces along your right elevation. You said that would be fine.
Fast forward to April 16. Myself and a subcontractor that I have used for siding work many times in the past show up to your home. We have rented a metal brake and purchased a roll of trim coil. These are the materials necessary for the aluminum fascia currently covering your wood. We spend several hours there putting up the pieces that you and I have discussed replacing. I took several pictures of before, during, and after. We left you 3 additional pieces that we broke in case you needed additional pieces in the future. We left the pieces next to one of the damaged pieces. We wanted you to see that there were no nails in the fascia. We also made sure to bring your attention to how much flimsier your current pieces are due to the fact that they do not have a hem. I called you afterwards to let you know we had finished. You were busy, we spoke the next day.
April 17. You called again. You said (as you had in the past) that you liked the way it looked. Then, you mentioned that we missed a couple of spots. Again, lengthening the scope.
April 22. I came back out, you showed me three additional spots that you wanted done. That happened to coincide with the extra pieces we left you. I made sure to ask, again, will this satisfy you. You said it would. The plan was for me and an employee to come out within the next few days to fix the remaining three.
Unfortunately, two days later, I pinched a nerve in my back and I was out of commission for a few days.
May 13. I arrived with my employee to make the repairs. During the first piece, I asked you to come outside to watch before I put any nails in. I wanted you to sign off on it before I did any work. It was at this point that you said that the pieces that we had replaced previously looked horrible and was "hot garbage". Then, you said, "You know what, Drew....why don't we consider this project complete." I finished the piece I was working on and we left your property. We have gone above and beyond in an attempt to please you since the inception of this project. You have said multiple times that you were happy, before turning around and saying that our work was bad. At no point, has any evidence been provided that we damaged your fascia other than your word. My attached photo report has several photos of during and after the repair. Notice the look of the new fascia from my photos versus the look of it in your photos. When we left your property, that is what your fascia looked like.
So far, you have received one other bid from a contractor for $3,400.00. This price makes no sense given the scope of what you said we damaged. At first it was a couple of pieces, then it was more, and more, until now you are claiming all. Our photo report tells a different story. We did an excellent job on your roof. After we ran our magnets upon completion, I told you that it is nearly impossible to collect all the nails on a full scale replacement. I then left you my own personal magnet so that you could walk around your shop specifically. Your corvette was in your shop and you wanted to make sure that it did not catch a nail in its tire ($1,100.00 per tire). You mentioned in your complaint that you picked up a 1/2 gallon of nails. You told me you picked up 5 buckets of nails. I inquired as to the bucket, you said large buckets. The severity and scope has been changed at least 4 times up until this point.

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because: the contractor has a serious listening problem, He was shown every flaw that existed after the roof was installed, he talks but does not listen, I was referring to the inches of nails in the bucket not buckets of nails. I do intend to get in a “he said-she said” conversation, the bottom line is the facia was perfect for 19 years regardless of what type it is and I expect it to be corrected. He can hire someone to repair it or I will, make no mistake as I will exhaust all options.

We go above and beyond with all of our customers, no exceptions. We demonstrated this when we added additional 750 Slantback vents in order to help with ventilation issues. We did not charge you any extra for this. We did this because it was the right thing to do for you and for your roof. We also demonstrated this when we came out three additional times in an attempt to repair the damage you say we caused. We standby what we have said thus far. It is unfortunate that we have not been able to resolve this. However, in the spirit of going above and beyond, we will attempt one final resolution with you. We will be in contact with you via phone within 24 hours.Customer Answer
