On 13 FEB 2024 I asked my wife to go get our 2010 Toyota Corolla LE 1.8L looked at due to a loud and occasional squeak believed to be from the serpentine belt. Due to only being quoted $70 the day prior for a diagnosis, I believed this to be the price and told her only to approve the work if it was under $125 total. She gets there and hands over the keys without a quote for diagnosis, when the diagnosis is done and they're taken back to the car to discuss the problem with the technician, they are told the problem (A loose 14mm bolt at the bottom of the alternator) was already fixed and it would be $55. My wife believes the diagnosis fee is still $70 and she says okay (Noting, the work was already done) after this she hands over the card only to receive an invoice for $181.90, With a "Powertrain diagnosis" fee of $120. My wife brings concern to this amount. The tech says he made a mistake and can offer $25 dollars off our next oil change. I proceed to call the next day. On 14 Feb 2024 I call twice once asking if they waved the diagnosis fees if the work is approve, and am told 50% waved is standard, and 100% depend on the work, In addition the second time I called I asked their rate to diagnose an alternator/serpentine belt issue and am told $49.99. I proceeded to go into the store to speak with the technician, and am told the best he can do is a $40 store credit. The day prior 12 FEB 2024 I called and asked the price for them to diagnose my 2010 Honda civic EXL 1.8L and was told approximately $70. I had my 2010 Honda Civic diagnosed for an overheating issue and was told it was believed to be due to a faulty thermostat, as well as needing a coolant flush. I approved these services for a total of $422.62, only to be told after the fact the head gasket was also blown. I take it to a different mechanic on 15 Feb and am told the system is full of stop leak, the thermostat housing was bad, and the head gasket was fine. I've never added stop leak to my coolant system.
