On June 3, 2025 I purchased a 9 week old mini dachshund puppy from a breeder named ***** Speed of ******* Doxieville for $1000. ******* would only accept cash. After 3 nights of having the pup (June 6th), I asked Mrs. ***** if any of the other puppies had gotten sick to which she replied no. By Sunday, June 8th, I had to take puppy to the ************************ in ***********, *** The dog had become so sick she couldn't keep anything down, became lethargic and shallow breathing. the vet, Dr. **** ******* diagnosed her with Parvovirus and said she was full of hookworms. He stated that dogs have to be exposed to Parvo at least 2 weeks before showing symptoms therefore, the pup was sick when ***** sold her to me. Dr. ******* wanted to speak to ***** to inform her that our puppy was extremely sick and exposed from HER HOME as well as the rest of the litter that she sold to others. Any future puppies she bred will also be exposed to the Parvovirus. ***** had checked on the puppy each day. She acted concerned, acknowledge via text message that Dr. ******* told her the virus came from her breeding establishment. Dr. ******* told me basically said that she, *****, should do the right thing and refund the cost of the puppy. After 4 nights at the clinic, the puppy survived. The total of the bill accrued was $4102.06. I contacted Mrs. ***** on June 9th to let her know that the puppy was going to live. I told her the total of the veterinary bill and told her I felt the least she could do was to refund the $1000 that I paid for the puppy. I didn't ask for help on the vet bill (even though if the puppy were healthy, I wouldn't have had one), only the money paid for the dog. ***** Speed never responded. Not a yes, not a no - not a word. She just stopped talking to me. I feel that I was taken advantage of. Others who have purchased dogs from her may have gone through the same experience as me, not to mention future purchasers. Several texts exchanged. Can you all help me?

    Business Response

First let me say Im a reputable breeder and have NEVER had parvo at my home. My puppies are kept in a nursery inside my house. They never go outside and cone with up to date vaccinations & deworming..I stress to every client that puppies are NOT fully protected until they have all their vaccinations which end at age 1 year.. And to use caution on where the puppy is exposed.

This puppy was 1 of 6 puppies in the litter.. All of the other littermates received a clean bill of health. Including the male puppy which is still under my care awaiting his new home. All my puppies come with a 48 hour health guarantee. However this puppy wasnt taken in until sick .

I did call the vet and was advised the puppy has parvo (no mention of hookworms). I explained to the veterinary that all other puppies were fine. He agreed with me stating that it was not possible for only one puppy to have been exposed while under my care while others were healthy! He never said the puppy got parvo from my home. He agreed that parvo was very contagious and can be on many surfaces including his clinic. He said there was no way of knowing how & when the puppy was exposed. He never said it takes 2 weeks but instead said 3-4 days normally but can be up to 7 days. This puppy left my care healthy & was gone 4 days before getting sick per client. However the puppy got sick on a Friday and wasnt taken to veterinary until Sunday. By the time the puppy arrived it hadnt eaten/drank anything for 48 hours & was extremely weak per the vet during our phone call.

Also the client was supplied a shot record and the 9 weeks shot & deworming was 4 days past due. Im truly sorry the client & especially the puppy had this horrible experience but the puppy was not sick & had not been exposed to parvo while under my care. The vet said its rare but possible for puppies to contract the disease after given the shot..

I feel the clinic took advantage of the client charging her over $4000 for the service. I checked with my personal veterinarian and he said there **** would have been under $1000.

Ive been in business since 2006 and have had hundreds of clients through the years that were and still are satisfied with their puppies and my service. Unfortunately when you buy a puppy it cones with vet expenses and in this case the charges were obsessive.

Im very thankful the puppy survived!!

I am rejecting this response because:  This is an unacceptable and unfair explanation of what happened. My dog was received on June 3rd, a Tuesday NIGHT at 7 pm and began feeling sick by Friday NIGHT. That's 3 days, not 4. Puppy shot record said puppy was due for next shots on June 4- 12 hours after receipt of the dog? As a single mom working 56 hours a week, that was a short window to get shots. Regarding the shot record, upon speaking with the vet and other breeders, that record was a JOKE. It showed the dog had a shot on (blank) date. The names of the shot were listed therefore, its unclear what she was given.  I should have done my research as well because the same breeders claimed to have heard many complaints on Mrs. ****** including one breeder who bought a dog from her. I assume that according to Mrs. ******* conversation with Dr. ******** he had a completely different account of how the dog came into contact with Parvo. I am reaching out to him for signed information on his opinion of source of Parvo and recollection of the call with Mrs. ****** as apparently we have 2 different stories.  I would think that Mrs. ***** would be a bit more concerned of her future reputation. The condition of the other puppies is unknown because who knows who bought one and if one were sick, that buyer may not have contacted her or she may not let such info be known. As far as the veterinary bill, yes its very expensive because I had to go to an after hour vet, after I got off of work. I'm not asking for Mrs. ***** to help with my bill. I simply want a refund of $1000 for the dog. By her admission, she sold 5 pups @ $1000 each = $5000. I would think as a self declared "reputable breeder", she could at least refund all or some of my money. I'm not out to get Mrs. ****** I simply want what seems fair and just.

    Regards,
