My wife and I recently built a house 25 miles north of ********, *******. We had a bad experience with our building contractor, *****************, Prairie Builders, ********, *******. We paid ***** a lot of money. Here is a summary of our experience with *****************. We were led to believe we were hiring an experienced, ethical, professional contractor. What we got was an amateur charmer; someone who will deceptively represent his capabilities in order to get a job. He signed a contract with us then ignored the contract along with virtually every term in the contract. He delayed construction unnecessarily even though we paid him in advance per his demand. He failed to properly supervise his workers resulting in foolish and expensive mistakes that he refused to correct, leaving the client to hire professional, licensed contractors to correct his errors. He had his inexperienced, unsupervised son build most of our house as a learning experience for that son. He did all of the plumbing and some electrical on our build without proper licensing. He also designed and installed an in-floor heat system without a boiler license. This system is woefully inadequate. He didnt follow the house plan resulting in costly errors. He frequently changed his estimates without written and signed change orders from the owners. He delayed fixing his construction defects and omissions he and his son left behind for 12 months before blowing us off as clients. We believe ***** didnt want to pay to fix those defects. He did not provide any *************** or owner manuals for ANYTHING on our build. He never provided anything that could be recognized as a professionally done final financial ledger. He never provided us with any kind of final punch list. He left behind some $80,000 (conservatively estimated) of construction defects and undelivered items and services when he walked away from us. We can provide written, photographic, and physical proof of our claims.
