      On June 9, 2025 my son **** and I went to Total Rental Inc to pick up the escavator (heavy equipment) we had reserved days prior. We drove 100 miles round trip and got home with the escavator to do the clean up we needed to do of our garage we had to tear down after a drunk driver plowed through it. Upon unloading it and beginning to run the machine we quickly realized the thumb on the bucket wasn't working and it was caused from the valve about not working at all. With no ability to use the thumb there was no way to pick up anything to do what we needed or had paid to use it for. My daughter called Total Rental to let them know and the guy was saying to her he told them the thumb was bent and probably could still be used. She told him it couldn't be used at all and he argued with her for a while. The thumb was able to be lifted up by me by hand and that should never be that way. My son didn't even use it an hour...trying to find a way to get it to work etc. We loaded it up this morning and hauled it all the way back to get my $1420 back. $400 was a deposit and $1020 was for having the machine for 5 days (had it been able to be used) I got there and they told me I couldn't have all my money back. I was charged $267.75 for a machine I couldn't even use. The meter on the machine was ******** when we picked it up. When we brought it back the meter read *******. I argued with them until I just gave up and I left. This is absolutely wrong. I'm an 85 year old man and this is how they do business? I want all my money back. The machine was useless and they should stand by the machines they rent and have them in proper working order before letting anyone leave with a machine.
