on 12/23/23 my daughter, 2 granddaughter and myself went to the business and spoke with ***************************, store manager. I wanted to give my granddaughters sewing ******s for Christmas. ***** quoted us $90 for three sessions for the girls. That was agreeable. to me. ***** that she would contact the instructor and would contact my daughter ********************* with times. In March the instructor contacted **** and arranged 5 classes in the month of April. **** was given a list of needed supplies which she bought for about $100. At the last ****** ***** charged and demanded payment of $250 for the classes. This was paid to *****. I called ***** to ask about the cost and that this was much more than $90. ***** was very defensive and blamed the instructor and my daughter for any miscommunication. She refused to address my concerns. Realizing that ***** was not going to address any concerns that I had, I told her that I would contact the BBB. She said ok. It seems that the quote for classes was not even close to the amount that was charged. Could you please investigate? Thank you. ***************************

    Business Response

My name is ***************************. I am the owner of A Clean Stitch Sewing Center. When ****************** was in my store on 12/23, she inquired about kids classes. I informed her that we do have kids classes and that they typically average about $30 for a 3 hour class per student. Further into the conversation I discovered that ********************** grandchildren did not meet the age requirements to join our children's classes (participants must have completed 4th grade to attend our classes) I informed ****************** of this and said that there may be a chance that my instructor would be willing to do a private session with her grandchildren but I could not guarantee this until I spoke with my instructor. I also stated that I did not know what the charges may be for private sessions as we have never done this before. The dollar amount that ****************** referenced for the classes was a general estimate of what our structured children's classes typically run. I discussed the possibility of  doing private sessions with my instructor and she agreed to do them. I felt it would be easier for scheduling purposes to have my instructor in direct contact with ********************** daughter. I gave my instructor ****'s (********************** daughter) phone number and my instructor initiated contact. **** and my instructor scheduled several dates to use our classroom area. I communicated with my instructor what the charges per session would be and she relayed the info to ****. I was not aware of any problems or confusion as to the charges, due to the fact that the charges were agreed to in a text message between **** and my instructor. When ****************** called me she brought up the fact that the charges were much higher then I had quoted her. I tried to explain that I did not give her a quote for private lessons because at that point I wasn't even certain that we would be able to accommodate this. The only dollar amount that we spoke about was the general pricing of what our classes cost. I expressed to her that my instructor laid out the charges in a text message to **** and she replied with "so you say" I told her I was more then willing to forward the message to her and did not get much of a response to that. I feel that there was a major miscommunication between her, myself and her daughter and feel that general statements about our class pricing was taken by ****************** as a direct quote. I tried my best to explain that we did not discuss pricing for private lessons when she was in my store because at that point I was not even certain that we could accomplish this as I had not discussed it with my instructor. I feel that ****************** took my general statements and applied them to a very specific and unknown situation. I am more then willing to refund the full amount charged ($250) to **** if ****************** feels that is fair. I am fairly confident that 5 private sewing sessions totaling 7.5 hours, using store facilities (classroom) and store sewing machines, for 2 students would regularly cost at least twice that amount. We charged $10/ hour per child plus a $10/session rental fee. We pay our instructor well over $10/hr and we normally rent our machines out for $25/session. This is to help cover our costs of repairs and maintenance on our machines. We discounted this down to $10/ session in an attempt to make the session more affordable for the children. I did not even cover my operating costs on this situation. As stated earlier. I am willing to refund **** the $250 that was charged.

    Thank you,

    ***************************
