    I rented a storage unit in April of 2024. In August of 2024 I received a letter stating that my rent was going up 64%, Regrettably, due to various factors, we find it necessary to adjust the rental rates for certain units, including the one you currently occupy.I called the manager, and he said that those various factors, were, in actuality, one factor: demand is high, and so they can raise rents. They are holding my moms stuff hostage, and it would cost over a thousand dollars to hire movers to move the stuff to another storage facility.While the manager did offer to adjust the rate only 33%, its unclear how long that low, low rate increase will be in effect. One month? Three?The upshot: they raise the rents simply because they can. Those kind of business practices are unethical.
