My 19 year old son got a guitar from a family friend when he was 14 and beginning to learn guitar. Its very sentimental to him and us. We took it in to Area 22 Guitars to get new strings and have it tuned up. The guitar isnt fancy; it was low end for beginners but has been great for him as hes learned to play throughout the years. The owner restrung it and tuned it up and while doing so, he broke the bridge. It cracked. He called my son and told him, then my son told me. I called the owner to see if he was going to make this right. Give money or at least not charge **. He said of course Im charging you! I did the work! I said, but you broke the guitar! He said that guitar is a toy. Its cheap and its a toy! (Its not a toy. Our friend works at a nice music store in SC and he got it for my son there. Its lower end, like i said, but NOT a toy)! I said this guitar isnt expensive but its good and sentimental and all we wanted was new strings. You broke it and need to make this right. He wouldnt hear of it. I called the sheriffs office asking if theres anything I could do. He was very sympathetic with me and wished he could help but legally there was nothing he could do. He said this man is a bad business man and that I should give a review in several places and report to the BBB. The guitar does play, but the crack is significant and could crack open at any time. The owner said he didnt know how long it would stay in tact. He charged me $41 for new strings and tuning. Now my son has a sentimental guitar that could split at any time. This is disgusting on every level. The owner was condescending and arrogant. I told him that he at least should have told me he doesnt work on toys when we walked in and at least wed still have a good working guitar! Pathetic. Bad business. And he doesnt care.
