I started conversations with *********************** in February of 2023 to convert my existing screened porch into an enclosed sunroom and also requested that they fix some dry rot on an exterior door. *********************** said his company was Stillcraft Building. After a couple of months, I was abruptly told that ***** was no longer with ********** and would no longer be working with me. I was left with ******************* who had come on board as a surprise to me. *** informed me that he was the licensed contractor, and that ***** was not licensed. Initially, I was given an estimate of $26,831.9. I paid $15,000 on 3/10/23. Work began sometime in April 2023. Work was mostly finished in July. I paid an additional $14,000 on 6/27/23. The bill had now jumped to $30,019.70. I was going to pay the remaining balance of $1019.70 and just not wanting to make a fuss about the newly updated costs. I was suddenly presented with yet another bill for $2720.00 which was presented as an overlooked payment that had not been included for labor costs. I resisted paying this sudden new bill that suddenly showed up. I became nervous and asked about why this work did not require building permits from the ****************. ******************* told me this work did not need permits but that he would check on this and he came back and told me that this work did not need a permit. After all the issues with costs being escalated, I became very suspicious. I wanted to make sure that this job did not need a town permit. I contacted the **************** and they came out to inspect the work. They found some deficiencies. The work done was NOT done to code and had some issues that will have to be addressed (lighting and electrical outlets and perhaps flooring underlayment). Furthermore, I was told that by the inspectors that no one had asked about permits. My problems were serious costs escalations, not being provided with documents that I signed and being told that this project did not require a permit.
