To make a long story short, my sister and I are in the unfortunate position of dealing with 2 parents that have dementia/Alzheimers. Our stepmother is in the more advance stages and our dad is diagnosed with moderate alzheimers. Both parents are not in good health. Neither parent had planned for this. We have to make medical and financial decisions for both of them. To do this we were told that we needed POAs for them. We discussed this with both, dad agreed that he felt he no longer could make proper decisions on his own. I went online, printed out a medical and financial (durable) POAs, we went with our witnesses to sign and notarized these 2 POAs. Our father has assets, but no will or trusts or any safeguards for the future of these assets. We made contact with Carolina Family Estate Planning, I will refer to them as (CFEP) for the remainder of this complaint. Our initial virtual meeting with them cost us $75, and we were requested to pay a $4975 retainer fee. We did. At the Dec 15, 2022 meeting, we were requested to pay $2000 retainer for the dementia expert. We did. We paid this monies in good faith that this group could help us. They didn't. We decided to end our relationship with (CFEP), I sent a cease and desist letter notifying them that we are not satisfied with them, I also requested no less than 3 times a itemized list of cost for services. None had yet to be provided. We were told the cost of our 1 hour meeting that resulted in 2 POAs (which we already had) and the 10 minute elevator meeting added up to the total of $6975 minus $370 due to us. But yet they still cannot provided me with an itemized cost sheet. There are more details but it would make the review way too long. It is our intent to save anyone that is going through this very difficult time, not to add to your stress and distress by dealing with these people. They don't care about anything but money. We are no better off dealing with them as we were before dealing with them.
