In September 2023 I mailed a package of 20 audio cassettes to ******, which cost less than $100 to ship. February of 2024 I received the package back because it was not delivered. Shortly after I received the return package I received a bill from *** for over $400. I sent an email in early February asking what this bill was for. I was told the bill would be in dispute until resolved. The first response I received was that this bill was an import tax. After 2 months of going back and forth asking about how this is possibly an import tax when the package originated in the **, I received an email saying this charge was on import tax into ******. They claimed that this tax was for importing the package into ****** and I have to pay for it since the package was not delivered. At one point they told me they were going to reverse the charges to the shipper, which is confusing because I shipped the package.I asked how the charge could be so high for 20 tapes but they didn't reply. At no point did they tell me that this had been resolved and that the dispute was resolved, removing the hold on the bill. The first week of December 2024 I received a notice that they sold this bill as debt to a collection agency. *** never made it apparent that a charge like this would be possible on a shipment overseas. They then refused to explain to me how the import charge could be far more than the value of the package and the shipping charge. And finally they sent the bill to collections without notifying me they took it out of being in dispute, which will probably effect by credit score. It feels like their policy is to bill people for a service they didnt know they were receiving then not explain the charge and force people to pay large sums of money. If I would have know that this was a possible outcome of using **** I would not have used their service.
