      I had my eyes examined at Carolina Ophthalmology in *********** ** over a year ago. In today's mail, I received an invoice for $50 as a "no show" fee for a missed appointment that I was not aware of. Immediately, I called Carolina Ophthalmology and spoke with the billing secretary. (I have chosen to withhold her name and will just refer to her as "billing secretary".) The billing secretary, claimed I made an appointment in **** of last year for **** of this year, (I don't remember that.) She claimed I had been reminded of that appointment through Carolina Ophthalmology's automated phone-calling system in advance of this year's appointment. (Not true.) According to the billing secretary, Carolina Ophthalmology had their computerize phone-calling system call the telephone number I had used when I made last year's appointment. That telephone number was not my own telephone number and I knew last year, at the time of my appointment, that It was not a telephone number that should ever be used to contact me in the future. If I had been asked, I would have given Carolina Ophthalmology one of my own telephone numbers to use in their system for future contact. Unmercifully and unkindly, the billing secretary said the fact I had an appointment that I was unaware of was entirely my fault. She said that because Carolina Ophthalmology used a telephone number that is not mine to contact me as a reminder was also entirely my fault. Unrelentingly and unsympathetically--the billing secretary said Carolina Ophthalmology's position on this situation (which has apparently occurred before) is hard-lined and absolute; uncompromising and unforgiving: that I must pay Carolina Ophthalmology $50.00 for an appointment that I was not aware of and that I had not been reminded of. That I am entirely to blame and am solely responsible for this perverse situation.

      Thank you for your review. I understand that you do not agree with our No-Show policy. The policy clearly indicates Cancellations are requested 24 hours prior to the appointment. We reserve the right to charge for missed or late-canceled appointments. Carolina Ophthalmology makes every effort to notify our patients of their upcoming appointments with the information given by the patient at the time of their latest appointment. Carolina Ophthalmology Associates offers our patients the opportunity to schedule their appointment(s) for the upcoming year if they choose. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We hope you stay safe and healthy.
