****** Michiels, CPA, has ben ****** join tax returns for me and my estranged sound since our 2019 returns. As of June 19, 2024, I have been legally separated from my spouse but made the decision to file married, joint returns for 2024. After limited communication, I was advised on 03.28.25, my estranged spouse filed separately. This was a direct conflict of interest, with D. Michiels aware of our separation and pending divorce, but was ethically bound to both me and him as dual clients with a significant joint business history. As a financial professional, he had knowledge and insight in the direct implications this would have on me personally and unethically listed both our children as his dependents. We have no court documents or signed agreement that release my claim to either child, which should have been requested and required by D. Michiels to remain objective and practice in good faith, knowing our contentious marital status.****** Michiels, CPA, provided services knowing it would be detrimental to one client and did not act in the best interest of either party, did not recuse himself under conflict of interest, and active under a clear breach of ethics with display of malpractice. Had I not followed up for the status of the returns, I would have never known I was not longer being serviced, as they had zero communication with me regarding the 2024 joint ****** ********* estranged spouse had agreed to amend his taxes to file jointly and requested D. Michiels file as joint, he refused to amend the taxes and told us to get another CPA, rather than correct his misconduct and unethical services. I absolutely would not recommend this firm or their services.
