On April 20, 2025, I visited Meineke Car Care Center after speaking with an employee named ****. I informed him ahead of time that I had a diagnostic report from AutoZone, which I brought with me and presented in person. The report showed diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) including P2196, P0456, P1450, and P0131, clearly pointing to an issue with the **** Canister Purge Valve on my 2013 **** Escape.Despite providing this documentation and requesting that specific part be replaced, the shop proceeded to install a fuel pressure sensora part not related to any of the diagnostic codes presented. The check engine light remained on, and the original issue was not resolved. When I returned to request the correct repair, **** insisted that I had misunderstood the issue, dismissed the original diagnostic report as not a real diagnostic, and said I would need to pay again for the proper repair. I felt talked over, manipulated, and pressured into trusting the technician over the clear evidence I brought in.Snap Finance has since paused my payments while they investigate the situation, acknowledging that the charge may be invalid. However, Meineke corporate has not responded to my complaint, and the local shop has refused to take accountability.I am requesting either:A full refund, or A no-cost correction to install the correct part I initially requested: the **** Canister Purge Valve.Business Response

To All concerned:
I have looked into this issue, and the only code that was current and present in the system was a P018C-00, which is for the fuel pressure sensor. That being said, we would be more than happy to take another look, free of charge to ensure the issues present can be addressed!

I respectfully reject the businesss response.
At the time of service, I brought a printed diagnostic report from AutoZone that clearly showed **** system-related codes (P2196, P0456, P1450, P0131). I specifically requested replacement of the **** Canister Purge Valve based on that information.
Meineke never physically provided me with their shops diagnostic paperwork at the time of service. Instead, an image of their diagnostic was texted to me without proper explanation, and it was not clearly reviewed or discussed in person before the repair was performed. I did not know I even had a separate scan image until I returned after the issue was not resolved.
Had I been given the opportunity to review and compare the scan results side-by-side with my documentation, I would have been able to make a fully informed decision. Instead, I trusted that the technician understood my request and would proceed accordingly.
As a result, an unauthorized and unnecessary repair was performed, and the original issue remains. I respectfully request:
A full refund of the $269.85
or
A no-cost correction for the replacement of the **** Canister Purge Valve, as originally requested.Business Response

Again, the diagnostic was done, and the only code was for that fuel pressure sensor. we do not sell parts based of of a code scan done at a parts store.Customer Answer

REJECT BUSINESS RESPONSE FINAL STATEMENT:
Hello,
I am rejecting the businesss response.
Meineke claims the only code present was for a fuel pressure sensor and that they do not base service on parts store diagnostics. However, I came in with a printed diagnostic report clearly showing multiple EVAP-related codes: P2196, P0456, P1450, and P0131 all pointing to a faulty EVAP Canister Purge Valve, not a fuel pressure sensor. I requested this specific part be replaced.
Meineke did not provide me with a printed diagnostic at the time of service, nor did they review the codes with me in person. Instead, the technician texted a scan image without explanation. I was led to believe my issue was being handled only to find out later they did something entirely different without properly explaining or confirming it with me. That is misrepresentation.
Furthermore, the check engine light remained on and the original problem was never addressed. I have since taken my vehicle to a trusted mechanic to investigate further. Due to Meinekes failure to communicate clearly, failure to honor my requested service, and the unresolved condition of my vehicle, I no longer trust this location with my vehicle.
I am requesting a full refund of $269.85 no further repairs, no store credit, no return visits. I have been more than patient and have documented this situation with both BBB and Snap Finance.
Thank you,

Dear BBB, Meineke,
Thank you for forwarding the response from Meineke Car Care Center. While I appreciate their offer to take a closer look, I have already had to take my vehicle elsewhere to be properly repaired, at my own expense, due to their initial refusal to complete the service I specifically requested.
I did not come in for a general inspectionI came in requesting a specific service, based on a prior diagnostic. Whether they choose to honor another shops diagnostic should not have affected their ability to provide the service I asked for, especially when I was willing to pay for it.
Instead, they performed their own inspection, which was not requested, and failed to address the original problem. I lost valuable time and incurred unnecessary additional costs because of this.
At this point, I am requesting a refund for the amount I paid at Meineke, as they did not fulfill the service I requested. I am no longer interested in bringing my vehicle back to them.
Sincerely,

AT this point, since we didn't get the chance to fix the issue, i would need to see documentation form the other repair facilityCustomer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:
Response to Business and BBB:
Thank you for your response. However, I am still not satisfied with the outcome or the handling of my initial request. I brought my vehicle in with a clearly documented request to replace the **** Canister Purge Valve based on a diagnostic report I provided. Regardless of Meinekes internal policy on outside diagnostics, I specifically asked for that part to be replaced and was willing to pay for that service. That request was ignored, and a different partthe fuel pressure sensorwas installed without my consent or clear explanation.
Furthermore, the issue was not resolved after their repair, and I was left with the same check engine light and the original problem. I was then told I would have to pay again to address the issue I came in for initially.
Because I no longer trust this location with my vehicle and the issue has since been addressed elsewhere, I am simply requesting a full refund of $269.85. I have submitted screenshots of my communications with the technician who completed the repair, showing the part that was needed all along and confirming it cost me an additional $209 to correct the mistake.
Meineke had multiple chances to acknowledge the error and make it right. At this point, I am not interested in further services from themonly a refund for the misdiagnosed and unauthorized repair.
Thank you for your continued support in helping resolve this matter fairly.
Sincerely,

This customer came in yesterday, and his replacement parts are already there waiting for him. He stated he would " Let us know" when he could return for the replacement of his shift indicator. As far as the rest of the repair is concerned, He stated to my staff at the store he has since gone to another repair facility and had his HVAC system "rigged" to work properly.Initial Complaint

Went to get free AC check as they have coupon on line. Was told on arrival the "free" check is them turning the car on and listening for noises and feeling if air is hot or cold. Agreed to let them drain and recharge system so could perform diagnostic check as they said that was the only way to truly check it. AC still not working after that, i gave approval for a relay switch change after being told it was $10, but then i was also billed about $80 in labor and $27 in shop supplies. Was told problem was fixed. As soon as i started out of parking lot it was blowing hot air and several dashboard lights (anti lock brakes, check vehicle stability and vehicle stability assist. The tpms light was already on) not previously on were on, including battery light. Pulled back in, they checked my battery and said alternator was bad. I had absolutely no previous issues with the battery before going there. I took my car to another mechanic called ****'s and he fixed my alternator, and AC seems to be working now.Business Response
Date: 08/29/2024
Good afternoon all! Inn the case of this customer, the Relay she paid for was indeed ***** (9.99) the rest was the 1/2 hour of labor to install it. Looking at the test results for our digital health inspection, we can see the read out on the batter test, and while the battery did test good and charging, the alternator output was at 27%. These results are discovered BEFORE any work is done. To state the alternator was damaged from an A/C recharge and a relay being replaced is not a valid statement. The customer stated she went to another shop to get the alternator "fixed" which I'm going to assume means replaced. That bears out as our test results show this is an issue. The manager did offer to pull the car back into the shop at no charge to confirm this issue, but that was refused. The only issue this customer paid for was the A/C work, which by her word is working fine. I again will offer to double check all of our work, at no charge to ensure quality control!Customer Answer
Date: 08/29/2024
I am rejecting this response because: I refused to let him pull it back in because i didn't want any further damage caused. I had no issue with the battery or alternator to my knowledge prior to them working on the *** It was only after that their work that my battery light came on. I did not trust he wasn't trying to scam me into unneeded and expensive work. I went to ******** next door after Meineke told me the alternator was dead to have them do a battery test to confirm, and then I took it to an actual mechanic to fix instead of the unskilled workers Meineke has. He did show me something about the alternator not working and the battery being at 27% before replacing the relay but I believe that was after draining and recharging the ** and I was not entirely sure I trusted him when he said that, I already was starting to suspect they were trying to charge me for more than I needed. and yes, the relay was $10, but they didn't tell me the labor would be so expensive, I expected it to only be $10 on top of the $218 they had already charged me, and I was already upset about that as there was a coupon for free ** check on the website that turned out to be inaccurate when I checked in. Not to mention that during the ** drain and recharge the technician came into the waiting room and asked me where the manual for the car was. I should have left right then and there.Business Response
Date: 08/29/2024
Asking for the manual was due to needing the identity of which relay controls what, so that was for accuracy of repair. We have ten different locations that we would have been more than happy to recheck your car for free! Again, the A/C system has nothing to do with your battery or Alternator, neither of which was worked on by us. Trying to say we caused an alternator failure because we charged up your ac system is a stretch. Insulting the workers is not productive to this conversation either. I will again state the test resulst of our digital health inspection showed a weakness in your charging system BEFORE the work even began.Customer Answer

2013 Jeep Rubicon on 6/10, to be checked for the service engine light. They came back and told me it was general code, but a Catalylic converter. that my complaint of driving doing 70 miles an hour and car is cutting off was due to this a repair. entrusted them to repair they were an inexpensive. stated that from todays diagnosed I will get a reporter how my Jeep is to my phone I never did. I returned on 6/11 for them to do the repair it took six hours never really gave me any updates. I had to ask what was taken so long and he said that the parts to the converter were generic and giving him a difficult time but on that visit, I received a diagnosis of my Jeep after the Repair was complete stating that I had several different concerns or leaks. took that information, I left thinking OK my jeep is fixed. Im grateful gave them a good review because I thought it was a great repair. Outcome, I was driving down the street on 6/13 my car cut off, and my service engine light came back on again . I called them and they said to bring it back in. I bought it and they checked. They said it was general codes. It had to run back through, but they wanted to begin to tell me that I had pin holes in my radiator a leak with the oil gaskets a leak in my wheel bearing. . I told him that couldnt be possible my gaskets have been repaired nor pinholes in my radiator. The service Manager said it came on and stalled again because of all the leaks I have. I took that information back to my mechanic and he said that they are taking advantage of me as such as a woman to make money. 1. radiator shield is in front of the radiator and it would have to hit the ** unit before the radiator. 2. there is no gasket leaks oil can just be in a pan sometimes, And they said I still have a code coming on with the converter, The code is downstream sensor, which they did not tell me it was bad. I feel compensation for that repair since I was told it would fix and it did not I was taking advantage ,Business Response

We were charged for unauthorized and unnecessary repairs. The techs tried to steal our parts. They allowed inexperienced techs to work on our vehicle which left it in an unsafe state as bolts were missing which held the motor into place, fenders and fender ***** were not secured and there were leaks due to them not mounting the parts back on properly. Store management did nothing to rectify the situation even after he admitted he knowingly allowed techs to work on the vehicle when they didn't know what they were doing. I have invoice information as well as photos and a video if needed.Business Response

I have spoken with *************** about this issue, and I will be addressing this very quickly!!Customer Answer
Date: 05/15/2023
I am rejecting this response because:The business responded to the complaint that they are handling the matter with me quickly. However, they advised they would call me on Monday May the 1st with a proposed resolution, and that did not occur. I followed up with **************** on Tuesday May 2nd he answered the phone and advised he was waiting on an answer from his boss. To date I have not received a response from **************** and I don't feel confident the matter is going to be resolved without your help.
My husbands truck is now leaking exhaust fumes once again and is still missing bolts from their mishandling. It is leaking from the side that should not have been changed to begin with and that was not authorized to be changed.
Now have to start all over and take the truck somewhere to get fixed. Therefore, we are now asking for a full refund of $939.00 plus the $75.00 in bolts we supplied and now can't return because they lost half to three quarters of the bag. We furnished a receipt for the bolts to the manager, ***** Saturday April 22nd and he assured me that day a refund would be processed within just a few days. Again, to date we have not received a refund or a check for the bolts.
Can you please assist with this issue? There was not an option on the complaint site that allowed me not to accept his response. This issue ** not resolved.
I have receipts, photos and a video that will prove my case here.
Please call me if needed.
Thank you kindly,

I have spoken with the customer today about this matter, and will be speaking with the owner about it again. I will have a resolution for the customer in the morningCustomer Answer
Date: 05/17/2023
I am rejecting this response because:We were not contacted by **************** yesterday 5/16 or so far today 5/17. We last spoke the afternoon of Monday May 15th when I called him for an update once again, and his recommended solution was to provide ** with a refund of the $75 for the bolts, and for ** to take the truck to another location and have the owner fix it.
As we will accept the $75 because we are owed that, we will not allow anyone from this company to touch the vehicle again. The manager, ******************* at the *******, **, location, store ****, admittedly let inexperienced techs work on our $40-50k truck and did not check the work afterwards. He also allowed work to be done to the vehicle which we clearly did not authorize. Per the initial diagnosis report, one header was cracked, and one header was authorized to be changed. Meineke has a copy of this report as we do as well.
The truck was left with missing and stripped bolts, fenders barely hanging on, and now is leaking again due to Meineke's mishandling.
The resolution here is to provide ** with a full refund of $939, plus the $75 for the bolts, a total of $1,014.00 so we can take the truck to reputable company and have it fixed properly. That is what is fair. That is the right thing to do.
This was to no fault of our own, and caused by this company's negligance and mishandling.
It is time to do the right thing. This has gone on too long. My husband has been distraught over this whole thing and he is now riding in a truck that is leaking exhaust fumes which is hazardous to his health and the environment.
Please do the right thing and provide ** with the refund we deserve.
Thank you,

I have been In contact with this customer regarding this issue, on several occasions. We agreed to refund ***** of the cost of this repair due to a bolt packed that was missing by our techs. I have offered to have this vehicle taken to another location for our owner to correct any issues that have arised due to this repair. The customer refuses to bring the truck in for me to personally inspect, and have any issue corrected at no cost. It should also be noted the parts used are aftermarket and not stock, and are not under warranty for manufacture defects. With that being said, I will again offer to correct any issue that are related to the repair that was performed. If someone else works one the vehicle, it will void the warranty in place, as is stated in the warranty that was provided at close of this sale.Business Response

I have reached out to this customer several times. I have been at the concord location as well, and attempted several times to have this customer bring this vehicle back so we can see exactly what is " messed up" The customer stated they refused to to that. I would also state that the parts that were replaced were aftermarket parts NOT provided by Meineke. I will be more than happy to provide This customer with the ***** they should indeed get back for missing bolts and have agreed to this, And I even left this money on site to be collected, which it was not. I will again offer to have this vehicle brought back to ANY Meineke in our network and personnally go over what is going on with these repairs, but will again state that Customer supplied parts carry no warranty of any kind.Customer Answer
Date: 06/23/2023
I am rejecting this response because:The owner refuses to provide us with a refund although we allowed their "head tech" to try and fix the issues caused by their incompetent techs. We did our duediligence by allowing them to try and rectify the issue. However, even after that our truck is still messed up. The header that is still messed up (other possible issues unknown) is the header we did not authorize for Meineke to change. We should be reimbursed for this. We are also due $75 for the bolts we provided and that their techs lost which we still have not received. As per usual throughout this ordeal, I am the one that is having to initiate the communications to try and get all of this resolved. If I don't initiate a call or text I don't hear a thing from anyone.

To All concerned,
Again, I have offered multiple time to have the vehicle looked at. I will again state that work with customer supplied parts carries no warranty of any kind which is clearly stated on the invoices. I still have the ***** I promise to return waiting for the customer at the shop, ready for pick up at any time. We have communicated with this customer several times and the customer refuses to return for me to personally see what is going on with this truck. I will again state with aftermarket performance parts, they is no warranty as they will change the way a vehicle runs from base line stock performance.
