I dropped my dog off at creature comforts on 12/24/2024 for a three week stay. During her last six days at the facility they ignored obvious, blatant signs that she was wasn't healthy and did not notify me of her condition, putting her at risk of death and denying me the opportunity to get her care. This delay caused a health issue to worsen and damage her body more than was necessary, she sat in pain for no reason, and now faces a longer recovery due to the inaction of the staff. The sequence of events I have been told is that in her 5th and 6th to last day, the staff had noticed her weight dropped and began drastically altering her food schedule, adding a meal and wet food. (They didn't notify me, I would have asked them to have the vet next door check her out and arranged to come home). Her 4th to last - last day at the facility, she apparently stopped eating regularly, only "grazing" and continued wasting away. All in all, my *****lb dog was 43lbs when I got her - FAR too much weight to have happened just in the 4 days of not eating. Turns out that a node of her liver was lodged in an abdominal hernia, compressing one of her lungs and causing chest fluid and tissue death to both organs. Ultimately she wound up in critical condition and required her liver node removed during a hernia repair surgery due to the extent of the tissue death. The hernia wasn't from boarding and I don't expect staff here to be vets or diagnosticians, but she was so skinny it was obvious to the naked eye, and they DID notice obviously since they started changing her food - BUT NEVER NOTIFIED ME. Having a dog be that underweight for nearly a WEEK not contacting the owner is serious neglect. This neglect directly led to my dogs condition deteriorating more than it needed to, with more necrotic tissue than if it was caught earlier which made her surgery much riskier than it might have been. There is no acceptable reason for them to not have contacted me sooner.
