I went to Carolina Imaging for a mammogram on 8/21/2023 when the technician ******* took me into the room as soon as I saw that machine I said "I have implants and can not be put in there." She said "We do it all the time, I just move the implants around. It's fine". So I trusted her. While my right implant was in there she squeezed too tight and I immediately told her it's too tight, she released my breast and maneuvered it all around and then tightened it again, walked over to her imaging and took several pictures. The next day my right breast was not as full as normal and drooping. I knew it was broken. I just had my breast implants done four an a half years ago, Carolina Imaging broke my breast implant. When I went in crying I was taken to see ********************* she proceeded to tell me I came in with it broken and Carolina Imaging is not responsible for my implant rupture. She then threatened to have my husband removed because he was very upset. My breast size is 36 DDD. If It was broken before my mammogram I would have known and the technician would have seen it and known as well. I saw my plastic surgeon and he said yes the mammogram machine broke it.I want the Company to take responsibility for what they did to me, I know they have insurance for this type of thing, its not right to do this to people. Is it really a coincidence that I get a mammogram and the next day I have a rupture? No.

We are sorry to hear of any discomfort or inconvenience you may have experienced. Please know that Carolina Imaging is committed to providing safe and quality medical imaging to our community, including those with breast implants. Our highly skilled technologists are familiar with the techniques necessary to move the implant around as needed to obtain mammogram imaging. Further, it is well-established that breast implant rupture during a mammogram is extremely rare; therefore, a mammogram is not contraindicated for those who have breast implants.

We are including a link from ******* Methodist that will provide additional resources for you.  *********************************************************************************************

If you have any additional concerns, please contact our office.

Can a mammogram cause a breast implant to rupture?
A critical part of a mammogram is compression of the breast tissue, which may have you wondering whether your implants are at risk for rupturing during the process.
According to a recent review, breast implant rupture during a mammogram is extremely rare. Remember, the technologist moves the implant prior to taking the implant-displaced views, meaning breast tissue is what's compressed not the implant.
In short, worry about an implant rupturing is no reason to skip your mammogram.

How are mammograms done with breast implants?
In addition to taking the traditional full field views of your b****** two images per breast several more pictures are taken in women with implants. These extra images, called implant-displaced views, help the radiologist evaluate tissue that would otherwise be blocked by the implants.
"After the standard images are taken, the mammography technologist manually pushes the implant back while pulling the breast tissue forward in front of the implant and compressing it," says **************. "Two more images are then taken. This process helps penetrate as much of the breast tissue as possible, providing images in which the implants are no longer obscuring the tissue."
This is repeated for the other breast leading to four images per breast, eight images total.
While more images are needed because of breast implants, ************** notes that there isn't any exam instead of the mammogram recommended for women with implants.
"There's also no official recommendation for additional types of screening because of them," adds **************. "Additional imaging, such as a breast ultrasound, may be recommended if you also have dense breast tissue, but not because you have implants."

I am rejecting this response because: Although it is rare it still happened to me.

I don't think sending me to a website on how rare it is is enough.

I came in with 36DDD b****** and the next day I'm losing volume that's not a coincidence, your technician broke my implant and you refuse to take responsibility.

    Sincerely,
